The Cable Electrical Engineer is a key role within the Offshore Renewables Business, focusing on the delivery of large-scale offshore wind projects in the US and overseas.
Belonging to the Grid Package team and reporting to the Package Manager (in the project), the Lead for the Cable Engineering Team will be responsible for implementing robust and cost effective engineering strategies and plans, tendering, negotiating and managing offshore supply, installation and maintenance contracts, planning and implementing delivery sites and logistics, complying with company and business engineering standards and technical acceptance criteria, and ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied. The candidate will be managing engineering activities and decisions across the offshore business as well as supervise activities for the Cable team.
The individual will be working as part of a global business with activities in many countries across the US and the rest of the world. The position may require some travel to various locations both in the US and overseas, the individual should be capable of coordinating teams working at different project locations.
Responsibilities
Job Duties
• Execute the strategy of the package defined by the Package Manager.
• Cost control and planning impacts of the project linked to the Grid package scope.
• Finding opportunities and optimizations to reduce / improve project CAPEX, planning and risk profile.
• To promote Health & Safety policy of the project
• Manage and resolve a range of technical/engineering issues within key packages on a day to day basis.
• At short notice, act upon problems and ad-hoc projects without losing focus on major ongoing workload.
• Ability to manage complex packages which require interface and precise coordination with multiple disciplines (structures, turbines, electrical cables, offshore substations, ports, vessels).
• Ability to manage people at multiple international projects and sites.
• Ability to negotiate with suppliers of services and manufacturer on a technical and commercial level.
• Advise Package Manager or Discipline Manager on the impact of technical/specialist risks and issues, and the viability of solutions recommended.
• Balance technical detail with commercial needs and provide recommendations, considering all relevant risks.
• Ability to perform as well as review cable ampacity studies
• Ability to review and comment system studies
• Coordinate between different projects (VW1, PCW, CWW etc.), capture lessons learnt and implement lessons learnt from previous projects on newer projects.
• Act as Head of the Cable team in the US.
