Job Description

Position Overview

As Manager, Vegetation Management, you will oversee and execute Invenergy's vegetation management processes for utility-scale solar projects across the U.S, from early development stages through pre-construction vegetation planning, construction implementation, and long-term maintenance. This role will coordinate across internal teams, including Development, Pre-Construction, Environmental Compliance & Strategy, Project Management, and Asset Management, and be responsible for developing each site's vegetation management strategy. This will also require coordination with external vegetation consultants, civil contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure successful implementation and compliance with the project's strategy during construction and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of project-specific vegetation and soil management plans (VSMP) that meet the conditions of state and local regulations, guidance documents, project permits, and customer contracts.
  • Provide internal teams with project-specific vegetation establishment and maintenance costs to be incorporated into economic models.
  • Ensure VSMPs align with project-specific objectives, permits, contracts, and budget.
  • Provide training on implementing the VSMP during construction and oversee the EPC contractor's vegetation establishment and maintenance activities.
  • Hire and oversee construction compliance monitors; confirm the project is meeting its vegetation objectives and complies with the VSMP.
  • Conduct site visits to projects during construction and operations stages to evaluate performance of vegetation during appropriate growing windows.
  • Collaborate with Manager, Vegetation Management on review of project documents and plans, development of vegetation improvements and processes, and forward-thinking strategies that are relevant to Invenergy's vegetation program.
  • Lead the development of internal vegetation establishment and maintenance processes documents; identify and implement improved processes for a more efficient team.
  • Develop a regional vegetation maintenance program, including the development of processes and resources, and train asset management and operations personnel on its implementation.

Required Skills
  • 6+ years in utility vegetation management operation, or land management related position
  • Experience working on vegetation management during construction, coordinating with construction contractors, and collaborating with environmental consultants
  • Background in environmental science, land restoration, forestry, soil science, or related field
  • Strong communication, writing, and personal skills; ability to work and build consensus across teams
  • Analytical and solutions-focused with the proven ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Working knowledge of the EPA's Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) principles and NRCS conservation practices
  • Experience working on general construction projects

Preferred Skills
  • Background working on large-scale land reclamation projects
  • Experience in utility-scale solar vegetation management
  • Advanced degree in environmental science, forestry, soil science, or related field
  • Familiarity with conservation and sustainability concepts

Salary Range

$118,000 - $132,000
