Title: Managing Director - Higher Education
Reports to:
Vice President of Education

Location: Remote – Anywhere in the US

 

Job Summary:

The Managing Director role for Higher Education is responsible for leading a sales team of 10 - 15 Client Partners, ongoing coaching and mentoring of Client Partners in sales process and reporting, and coordinating specific sales and marketing strategies to consistently grow the business profitably.  This is a Senior Leadership role that requires extensive leadership experience, strong business acumen, and a track record of delivering outstanding team performance.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Capable Leader of Sales

  • Builds a world-class sales organization through recruiting and retaining talented sales people.
  • Helps sales reps to build a strategic business plan and close large opportunities.
  • Develops sales reps to improve skills, knowledge, and mindset, and delivers timely feedback and coaching.
  • Manages sales performance, including holding people accountable to goals, expectations, and responsibilities.
  • Directs the completion of onboarding and ramp achievement.
  • Supplies accurate weekly forecasts to Senior Leadership.
  • Fills in territory gaps to serve clients needs and sells solutions.

 

  1. Capable Leader of People
  • Builds trust and respect with team members and treats them as whole people.
  • Offers guidance, direction, and support to team members.
  • Shapes and reinforces a culture of trust and excellence.
  • Maintains direction and momentum by foreseeing needs and meeting them, and identifying obstacles and removing them.
  • Serves as a dotted line manager and collaborator to support roles including Implementation Specialists, Operations Team, Business Development Partners, and Marketing Team.

 

  1. Capable Leader of Higher Education
  • Shares and creates cohesive vision, goals, and strategies that results in 30%+ annual revenue growth.
  • Understands the market and current trends and focuses the team on the right activities and opportunities.
  • Demonstrates effective presentation skills and is able to represent the division well
  • Understands promotional levers, company resources available, revenue recognition and other public company policies, and makes margin-based choices
  • Demonstrates business judgement.
  • Manages a budget effectively.


  • Five plus years of proven sales management experience, preferably in Higher Education. Ability to motivate, develop and direct a successful sales team to deliver results.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ongoing interest, engagement in understanding the Higher Education market and changing landscape.
  • Proven track record of building and developing significant account revenue preferably with Higher Education institutions and/or Fortune 500 companies.
  • Ability to use sales management tools and processes including pipeline, forecasting, account management, budgeting, account strategies, etc.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Must live near a major airport.   
  • Bachelors degree required, MBA or PhD preferred.
  • Frequent travel to client sites and to the corporate headquarters is required.
