MEPPI's Transportation Systems Division is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer II with experience in the HVAC industry to perform engineering activities in support of continuous improvement and optimization of operations and processes used in the manufacturing, assembly, test, installation, and servicing of locally manufactured transit related products for the Transportation Systems Division (TSD).

Essential Functions

  • Assist with developing proposals and estimates by reviewing specifications and estimating processes and costs.
  • Participate in make vs buy decisions related to TSD capabilities and capacities.
  • Develop processes, procedures, work instructions, inspection check sheets and test records with the support of designers, QA, engineering, assemblers and testers.
  • Participate in the design and fabrication of specialized jigs, tools, fixtures, and measurement and test equipment for production, repair and overhaul processes.
  • Identify required specialized shop equipment through periodic equipment reviews, analyses of capital expenditures, and the Division's current and future manufacturing, repair and overhaul needs.
  • Act as a liaison for the MELCO-directed shop training for new assembly and test procedures as needed.
  • Train the trainer for new assembly and test procedures.
  • Develop bills of material (BOMs) and incorporate them into the MRP system for use by procurement and production.
  • Perform and coordinate work flow/motion time studies for continuous improvement. Develop efficient repetitive techniques for manufacturing, repair and overhaul processes.
  • Recommend improvements in all phases of shop processes, including kitting and inventory handling processes.
  • Participate in designing and implementing facility layouts, work cell layouts, improvements in workforce utilization, cost reductions, material flows and process flows to optimize profitability.
  • Participate in the activities of the Safety Committee.
  • Further the goals and positive, professional image of the TSD Operations Department through interaction with other MEPPI Divisions and vendors.
  • Know MEPPI's Quality, Safety, and Environmental Policies. Be able to fully discuss the importance of these policies and how they impact work.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors' degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering with 3-5 years of related experience in light industrial manufacturing environment, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Lean Manufacturing.
  • Advanced interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills required to communicate with customers, employees and suppliers.
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to read and create technical drawings and material.
  • Advanced computer skills with emphasis on MS Office products, CAD software, and ERP/MRP systems.
