Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) Platform Specialist within our Technical Expertise and Support Core Engineering Tech Center. The strongly preferred location for this position is Freeport (Lake Jackson), Texas OR Terneuzen, Netherlands, but would consider other locations at Dow Facilities globally.

The Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) Platform Specialist works as part of a globally-distributed team of Process Automation professionals and has responsibility for the implementation and support of hardware and software solutions to address client needs. This job has a strong emphasis on Information Technology skills, technical problem solving abilities, and hands-on technical work.

Platform Specialist Responsibilities:

Provide software design, development, implementation, and technical support for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Advanced Control and Optimization (AC&O) solutions implemented globally. Emphasis is on system integration of Manufacturing Execution Systems (commercial) applications with a base platform comprised of hardware (Intel), operating system (Microsoft), network, and security. System integration will require consulting with Engineering Solutions and Information Systems peers and Technical architects.

This role requires knowledge of manufacturing (chemical preferred) and a strong technical knowledge around MES applications such as AspenTech's Infoplus.21™, AspenTech's advanced control applications (DMCPlus, AspenIQ, AspenWatch Performance Monitor, Aspen Nonlinear Controller), AspenTech's optimization applications (Aspen Online, Aspen Plus) and interfaces to other systems (Distributed Control Systems, Laboratory Information Management Systems, and other PI systems).

To perform this role, you will need to:

Serve as a Technical focal point to the Process Automation expertise areas, with emphasis on Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Advanced Control and Optimization (AC&O), and Regulatory Compliance platforms. Key areas of responsibilities include:

  • Working as a subject matter expert on process automation technology projects.

  • Participate in the design of the technical architecture of MES application packages.

  • Design role-based security models integrated across the MES applications and the operating system.

  • Work with Information Systems in the development of application packages for deployment on standard hardware.

  • Execute Project Testing and Remediation.

  • Participate in development of application training materials and documentation.

  • Mentor and support others for successful project execution.

  • Technical interface with application software vendors for new releases, patches, and defect resolution.

Provide technical application support for:

  • Implementation of MES and AC&O solutions.

  • Resolution of product defects and performance issues (Level 3 support).

  • Collection of new technology requirements for future application releases and product improvements.

Key Functional Competencies:

Information Technology:

In-depth Microsoft Windows operating system knowledge (server and client). Microsoft Active Directory Configuration/Troubleshooting Programming Languages - Visual Basic (VBS/VBA, VB.NET), VBScript, Structured Programming Language (C, FORTRAN), XML, SQL, scripting tools, TSQL, DOS script, Powershell System Integration - ability to bring in commercial and Dow Custom products into the Manufacturing Operations Systems space and construct Dow Most Effective Technology by integrating:

  • Applications:

    • AspenTech Manufacturing Suite ®: Aspen Framework (AFW), Aspen Data Source Architecture (ADSA), Aspen Production Record Manager, CIM-IO core, interfaces, SQLplus, IP.21 Process Explorer.

    • Advanced Control products , Wood Group E!CEMS, ABB's 800xA Information Manager, SAP ECC, Honeywell Dynamo ®.

  • Interfaces: TopServer, Rockwell RSLinx, Matrikon OPC.

  • Operating System - Microsoft Windows Server.

  • Microsoft Server Infrastructure (IIS, SQLServer).

  • Network Topologies and Architecture, TCP/IP, Virtual Machines.

  • Security (Active Directory, ACLs).

  • Knowledge of Oracle databases, SQL databases.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Hotfix and Patch installation.

Work Process Discipline:

Complete Project methodology deliverables (waterfall, agile) for the execution of software engineering projects and subsequent implementation, life cycle management, and support. Understands project deadlines and accountable for critical project deliverables. Drives resolution of product defects for life cycle releases.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering is required.

  • A minimum of 5 or more years of experience in process automation/MES or AC&O systems or Manufacturing IT is required.

  • Experience with Aspentech Manufacturing Suite is required.

  • For U.S. Applicants: A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a Chemical processing function is highly desired.

  • Knowledge of ISA-95 is preferred.

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies is preferred.

  • Knowledge of VBA is required.
