Essential Functions

The Department of Social Work seeks an established leader with the request credentials and experiences to lead the development of a Master of Social Work program. The ideal candidate for this position will have professional practice and research experience in mental health or related area of research. This candidate will also have direct experience with CSWE accreditation and curricular development and understanding of the 2022 EPAS. Additionally, this candidate will be able to teach across the MSW curriculum and primary role will be administrative as a Program Director with a 1-course per semester teaching responsibility, that may be assigned to teach either in person or using remote technologies in undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the department (Social Work). Applicants without teaching experience have access to a teaching and learning development program, and a range of developmental activities for faculty, supported by the Heimmermann Center for Engaged Teaching.

  • Experience teaching across the curriculum;
  • Experience teaching in either a BSW or MSW program;
  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (or equivalent).
  • Establish and maintain all requirements for accreditation established by CSWE in collaboration with other social work faculty.
  • Contribute to curriculum development.
  • Maintaining an active scholarship agenda, including pursuit of external funding and collaborative research that includes student participation.
  • Facilitate course development and scheduling.
  • Academic and professional advising.
  • Performing additional assigned tasks to enhance the quality of the program.

    Required Qualifications

    1. A DSW or PhD in Social Work preferred or doctorate in a closely related field.
    2. A Master's degree in Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education accredited institution
    3. A minimum of two years of post-master's practice experience in social work
    4. A demonstrated record of scholarly production, including practice related research
    5. Demonstrated experience with the social work accreditation or reaffirmation process.
    6. Experience in curriculum design and development, including utilization of experiential teaching methods.

    Preferred Qualifications

    1. Licensed as a social work practitioner (or eligible to apply for licensure) in Texas
    2. Bilingual/Bicultural
    3. Ability to provide mentorship through teaching, scholarship, curriculum development, administrative experience, and/or other academic and professional activities in social work
    4. Undergraduate social work teaching experience
    5. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
    6. Outstanding communication skills.
    7. Ability to engage with diverse groups and show sensitivity to variations across age, gender, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, language, cultural, national origin, and prior training and educational experience.

    Schedule

    Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

    Standard Working Conditions

    1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
    2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
    3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
    4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
    5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
    6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation
