SUMMARY

Responsible for the development and documentation of electrical interconnection component designs in a cross-functional engineering team environment. Position involves concept definition, creation of Solid Works and/or CAD modeling and drawings. Provides support to other departments including manufacturing, sales, customer service, quality, and supply chain.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Design Engineer works under the direction of an Engineering Team Lead and/or Senior Engineer to perform the following:
* Develops designs by analyzing product or equipment specifications, performance requirements, and existing manufacturing capabilities. Develops concepts for use in detailed design.
* Provides technical information affecting long range plant and product engineering planning by researching manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations.
* Conducts design and review of analyses pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials, or processes and completes required documentation by applying engineering principles and company standards, and generating detailed reports, procedures, or change proposals.
* Develops acceptance criteria, engineering evaluation, product test plans, procedures, and reports for designs. Compiles and analyzes operation, test, and research data in support of establishing performance standards for newly designed or modified product.
* Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements, cost-determining solutions.
* Prepares conceptual product design data, which includes detail drawings, assembly drawings and Sales drawings by coordinating with customer, engineers, designers, and drafters, interpreting customer and functional requirements, or by using computer-aided design tools and following industry drawing standards. Creates preliminary layouts and documentation in response to customer proposal requests.
* Reviews drawings and layouts to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies.
* Communicates with customer to establish understanding of customer's technical requirements and convey design capabilities, product performance, and organizational expertise. Evaluates new business opportunities.
* Creates proposals for customers by reviewing and interpreting specifications and requirements. Includes providing engineering labor and schedule estimates.
* Recommends and incorporates changes to enhance products and processes by applying continuous improvement methodologies. Leads product and process improvement initiatives.
* Enhances technical knowledge by routinely reading technical publications, enrolling in educational courses, engaging in professional associations, and actively maintains and modifies a development plan.
* Recommends and participates in organizational improvement initiatives that involve cross-functional team settings and responsibilities.
* Provides training to team members and/or personnel in other departments.
* Creates and maintains project schedule, resources, and budget, which includes the generation of milestones required to complete assigned projects.

SALARY INFORMATION

In compliance with multiple state's wage transparency laws, the annual salary for this position will be $80,000 - $110,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Carlisle Interconnect Technology reviews factors such as but not limited to responsibilities of the position, scope of work, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal pay equity, as well as market considerations when extending an offer.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent combined with 8 to 10 years in an interconnect design engineering environment.
* Alternately an associate degree in a related field with minimum 15 years in an interconnect design engineering environment.
* Aerospace industry experience preferred.

JOB SKILLS

* Skills in the use of 2D and/or 3D design software.
* Strong MS Office skills: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel.
* Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making skills.
* Ability to work without supervision.
* Must be able to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity by applying technical principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
* Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel, including vendors and customers is a must.
* Must be able to prepare and conduct technical design reviews for multi-disciplined audience.
* Ability to be flexible and able to function comfortably in a fast paced, constantly changing, and ambiguous environment while maintaining a positive team environment.
* A team player who can relate to people at all levels of the organization and possesses excellent communication skills with high ethical standards and a positive professional image.
* Must be able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems, deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

* Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
* Proficient written and verbal communication skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a normal office environment with minimal physical risks involved with some time spent on the manufacturing floor. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate.
