The Mechanical DVT Engineer will contribute to the test validation of new products; will work in a cross-functional development group; manage a variety of tasks and activities as required in this dynamic environment; and solve complex problems where no precedence exists.
Responsibilities:
- Creation of Design Verification Test (DVT) plans for new liquid cooling products.
- Plan and oversee performance testing (ASHRE/AHRI) then utilize the results to validate designs, system controls, and analytical performance models
- Participate in design and implementation of lab test facility upgrades and expansions, including training of test engineers & technicians
- Collaboration across the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, process engineering, as well as production and offering teams. Work with these teams for design reviews, DVT's, technology R&D, and customer witness tests.
- Performs a variety of engineering calculations using traditional engineering methods to verify design requirements, which may include stress calculations, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics
- Develops solutions to complex problems where little or no precedence exists - the use of ingenuity and creativity is regularly required
- Occasional use of CFD/FEA and CAD software
- Work with software team to develop and verify system controls
- Implement test activities to solve field issues, support service department
- Component verification testing for design changes and alternate suppliers
- Create and validate analytical performance models
Requirements: - Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or directly related degree
- 3+ years of career experience in new product development and/or testing as an individual contributor
- Understand electrical schematic and pneumatic drawings (P&ID)
- Understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
- Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment independently and as a member of a dynamic team; offer and receive constructive criticism
- Excellent project management skills and communication skills
- International travel ~10%
- Preferred Requirements:
- Experience with analytical performance models, various heat transfer fluids (water, glycol, refrigerant)
- Experience writing performance test requests, ASHRAE/AHRI preferred
- Knowledge of psychometric chart and (HCFC/HFC) refrigeration cycles
- Basic knowledge of CFD and/or FEA software, as well as 3D CAD software
- Demonstrated history of delivering quality products to market with understanding and respect for phases of the product development process
