Job Summary/Basic Function:
Provide support for audiovisual equipment and microcomputers associated with distance learning, broadcast, presentation, and classroom instruction; maintain inventories of parts and equipment; provide technical assistance to equipment users; perform related work.

Level Scope:
Applies skills and job knowledge in area of specialization; may adapt procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet needs of area of specialization; may work on non-routine tasks; resolves issues/makes working decisions within area of specialization or responsibility with minimal supervision.

Essential Functions:
60% of Time the Media Equipment Specialist must:
• Operates, constructs or modifies various audiovisual equipment and microcomputers associated with distance learning, broadcast, presentation, and classroom instruction. Specifically, hardware video codecs, video switchers, digital & electronic cameras, audio mixers, microphones, audiovisual, non-linear editing and signal routing switchers and camera control devices, audiovisual automated control systems, LCD projectors, screens and overhead cameras, camcorders, VCRs, TVs, television and video monitors, presentation systems, modulators and demodulators, and satellite receiver and distribution systems. Calibrates, repairs, cleans and lubricates electronic and electromechanical equipment and devices.
• Sets up electronic equipment and checks for proper operation. May configure and connect various cables for audiovisual equipment; may supervise staff. Inspects, troubleshoots and performs preventive maintenance. Provides technical assistance. Maintains inventory control records.

35% of the time:

• Assists Manager in planning and reviewing daily and weekly staffing schedule for events occurring in Student Union, Stueckle Sky Center, Alumni and Friends Center, Special Event Center, outdoor spaces, and other user-specified event spaces supported by University Event Services
• Presets, operates, strikes, and stores audiovisual equipment (projection, lighting, theatrical rigging, and sound) as a daily technician for a wide range of event types, from general meetings to large scale events, conferences, and performances
• Serves as a lead and backup technician for VIP events, including large cultural events and performances, press conferences, grand openings, and groundbreakings
• Performs the duties of stage manager, lighting engineer, and audio engineer during live events, leading crews and teams in event production as needed.
• Moves between front and back of house operations during multiple simultaneous events to provide customer service, audiovisual production, and timely support to a wide variety of event needs
• Greets and welcomes clients before, during, and after events, ensuring sound checks, review of multimedia presentations for functionality, and discussion of key production elements
• Coordinates work and provide task supervision to 10-15 student employees and may mentor student employees from the team as assigned.
• Provides feedback and instruction to student AV Technicians during weekly staff meetings and performance of job duties, and may assist Manager in preparing and delivering semester performance reviews.
• Reviews event set-up sheets, 10-day event projections, and daily reports to ensure accuracy of event staffing schedules and needs.
• Advises University Event Services Event Coordinators on common recommendations for audiovisual production equipment and services for a wide variety of event types.
• In conjunction with Event Coordinators, consults directly with clients and relevant event service partners to plan production of audiovisual services for complex and VIP events.
• Instructs student employees on correct use, care, and storage of equipment.
• Consults with Audiovisual Production Manager regularly on proposals for equipment upgrades, lighting upgrades, and staying current and up to date with technology.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operations of telecommunications system
• Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems
• Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job

Minimum Qualifications:
Good knowledge of: the principles and techniques of digital and analog applied electronics.

Experience: reading and interpreting electronic and electrical specifications and manuals; analyzing complex wiring diagrams; providing instruction in the operation, calibration, repair, construction and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment; using standard electronic and electrical test equipment and bench tools; setting-up, monitoring utilization and repairing audio video systems, data projection and other classroom audio visual technologies; using personal computers and standard software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
