Overview

This position will manage all aspects of a facility's employee safety, welfare and pandemic management strategies and programs including strategic planning, program implementation, and compliance. In conjunction with corporate health, safety and OSHA compliance leaders, develops corporate pandemic response plans, EHS plans, and educates and facilitates training of all employees on employee health, welfare and safety. Monitors, audits, identifies deficiencies, and collaboratively develops and implements issue resolution strategies and continually assesses the effectiveness of EHS programs. This position mandates the incumbent have a bias for action. The incumbent must be collaborative, creative, visionary, and relentless in leadership and the management of pandemic, employee health and welfare, and safety matters.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and monitors pandemic and EHS hazard situations, often including risk categorization, and develops and implements strategies for remediation.
  • Minimizes pandemic and other hazards and proactively reduces employee welfare and safety risks in the workplace.
  • Communicates and collaborates with facility leadership to educate, implement and react to illness and other employee welfare and safety issues.
  • Creates and tracks safety-related objectives, metrics, and goals for the facility.
  • Collaborates in the development of corporate pandemic & EHS vision and mission and strategic plans that establish a best-in-class/best practices. Strategically integrates pandemic & EHS-focused and strongly performing work environment for the management of pandemic and all EHS matters.
  • Is the facility SME leader responsible for aggressively implementing strategies to minimize the impact pandemic illness in the facility.
  • Leads and models corporate vision for illness protection & response strategies and EHS protection, response & achievement excellence.
  • Oversees and supervises shift safety coordinators to assure all aspects of EHS education including illness prevention and illness-specific protocols and compliance are achieved on all shifts.
  • Takes measures to drive accountability for safety.
  • Organizes and maintain all safety and compliance-related forms.
  • Drives the development of a data-driven culture that can coach around safety.
  • Uses emergency authority when needed to stop unsafe behaviors.
  • Identifies leading indicators and other metrics for the organization that can be used to support safety, safe practices, and employee engagement in general.
  • Creates, maintains, and improves policies and systems related to employee welfare and safety designed to create a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Performs regular patrols, inspections, evaluations, and/or walk-throughs of facilities and/or properties for EHS, Safety and illness prevention compliance.
  • Conducts toolbox meeting and other ongoing learning opportunities for staff.
  • Assures all staff-from temp, contract workers to regular employees-have completed necessary training and are equipped for roles.
  • Investigates incident or near-misses and lead root cause analysis.
  • Enforces safety standards and processes.
  • Creates, education and assure compliance with facility Occupational Health and Safety Policy.
  • Leads the facility safety committee and assures required reporting is timely, accurate and complete.
  • Verifies, approves and submits injury logs and reports to corporate EHS and/or government.
  • Reviews and approves subcontractor plans and safety standards.
  • Conducts job hazard analysis.
  • Records, investigates, and follows-up/tracks incidents to determine cause and to handle workers' comp claims.
  • Compiles and leverages ongoing data to show "state of safety" and return on safety investments.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Required:

High School Diploma or GED

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field

Years of Experience

Required:

3 years of relevant experience. At least 4 years of relevant experience without a related degree.

Preferred:

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Extensive knowledge of safety regulations and policies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in safety inspections.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

  • Works collaboratively with corporate and facility staff to implement corporate safety measure relative to pandemic and EHS strategies
