MOLD TECHNICIAN

Primary Purpose

Assists in keeping various types of molds and tooling in good working order. Assists in organizing and maintaining spare components and various consumables. Breaks down tooling, cleans and inspects for damage and reassemble. Detects and assists in correcting minor warn or defective components before molds are damaged or production is affected. Learns to prepare and operate a variety of machine tools, including but not limited to radial drill press, lathes, milling machines, grinders, band/table saw and sand blasters.

Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Assist in organizing, managing, and maintaining tooling and spare parts inventories.
  • Assist in keeping shop, work area and tools clean safe and organized following 5S protocol.
  • Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Maintenance system to retrieve and document work performed on the molds.
  • Receive, unpack, and store incoming tooling and tools.

On a Daily basis:
  • Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using fork trucks, hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
  • Perform routine mold maintenance and assist others with minor or major repairs.
  • Disassemble molds using hand tools and power tools, in order to examine parts for defects.
  • Clean and lubricate molds and components, in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Replace worn components as directed.
  • Reassemble mold and return to production.
  • Assist in setting up and operating CNC Mills, Lathes, drill press, grinders, sand blaster and other machining equipment.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with one to three years related experience and/or training.

SKILLS - ABILITIES
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Computer user skills – proficient in basic computer use – able to quickly learn and efficiently use new systems.
  • Aptitude for mechanical, machinist or maintenance work.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak clearly before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. Occasionally required to sit. Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance of equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
