The Role:

This newly created role will be accountable for oversight of and responsibility for the Moderna Technology Center (MTC) campus located in Norwood, MA, for decision-making impacting the campus and the accompanying worker campus experience. Reporting to the Senior Vice President (SVP), US CMC Operations, the MTC Campus Head will partner with all the members of the MTC leadership team to ensure a high level of service that scales and meets the short, medium, and long-term business needs as the campus grows. The MTC campus is approaching 2,000 workers in US CMC Operations (commercial and clinical supply), Global Quality (Quality Assurance and Quality Control), Technical Development, Facilities and Engineering, Global Security, Global EHS, Global Supply Chain and CMC Portfolio and Life Cycle Management.

This MTC Campus Head will serve as Commander for the MTC Incident Management Team, own the business continuity and site master plans, manage the budget directly related to the campus and liaising with the local Norwood community for campus matters, as appropriate. The leader will partner with corporate teams coordinating services and programs impacting the campus. In addition, this person will be responsible for campus specific EHS, grounds and buildings, security, space planning, food services, housekeeping, mail receipt/distribution, reception and visitor management, traffic management, parking, shuttle services and campus tours. The person will also help reinforce our highly engaged and collaborative campus culture by driving activities such as campus events and providing direction for the campus specific Employee Resources Groups (ERG).

This person will be highly motivated, possess strong indirect (matrix) leadership, and have already a track record of creating and shaping a positive campus culture. The person will be able to anticipate issues and demands and work to provide logical, innovative, and creative solutions without close direction. This person will represent the MTC campus in enterprise level efforts in support of Moderna's growth, scale and operating model. The person will also serve as an ambassador for Moderna and a vociferous internal advocate for workers on the campus.

Here's What You'll Do:

  • Oversee all aspects of campus facilities services supporting c.700,000 sq ft facility, across three buildings and accompanying grounds
  • Lead the decision-making processes for campus related matters ensuring the voice of the employee and associated stakeholders are engaged, gain alignment across the MTC leadership team and, more broadly, Moderna at a corporate level
  • Act as owner for the Site Master Plan to ensure cross-functional alignment of strategy and execution aligned with the long-range plan
  • Optimize our use of space and maximizing day to day operational efficiencies and collaborating successfully with all key stakeholders, notably US CMC Operations, Global Quality, Technical Development, Supply Chain, HR, IT and Finance
  • Responsible for compliance with EHS laws, regulations, and company policies
  • Act as the Moderna liaison with Real Estate/Property Management company for all building related activities, procedures, and protocols
  • Manage budgets pertaining to the site including rent, utilities, and campus operating expenses
  • Manage and motivate the EHS and business continuity teams and service providers supporting the campus
  • Responsible for coordinating campus events and activities aimed at heightening employee engagement
  • Responsible for executing projects at MTC in alignment with Moderna's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programs
  • Responsible for the performance and oversight of our service providers in food services and security to ensure they are an extension of Moderna
  • Act as client owner for all building infrastructure services and systems including IT.

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:
  • A BS in engineering and 25+ years of directly related experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry in operational and strategic roles. Or
  • A MS in engineering and 20+ years of directly related experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry in operational and strategic roles. Or
  • A PhD in engineering and 15+ years of directly related experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry in operational and strategic roles. Or
  • Broad expertise in facilities management is essential.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with experience owning a large budget.
  • Ability and experience with matrix leadership at an enterprise level through leading, influencing others and gaining alignment
  • Ability to manage conflict constructively and able to shepherd others to be objective to drive issues to resolution
  • Strong executive presence, diplomacy and honed communications skills as this role will act as an ambassador for Moderna to the local community and represent the MTC campus internally
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional groups and relevant stakeholders to set objectives, drive progress, and create a positive campus/site culture
  • Independent self-starter who operates well in ambiguity, integrates well with established teams, and does not require heavy direction to successfully achieve day to day goals
  • Solid judgment and the ability to drive solutions that align with the business
  • Ability to think critically about issues and understand context and likely challenges
  • Strong continuous improvement mindset and track record of driving execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional change in a positive way.
