JOB SUMMARY

Student Health and Wellness (SHaW) Mental Health Services at the University of Connecticut (Storrs Campus) is searching for a full time licensed clinician with specific expertise and professional background in delivering culturally affirming and responsive clinical therapy services with a particular focus on Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) students.  The role of this position is primarily to deliver direct clinical services with a particular focus on working with students of color or other marginalized identities students.  The incumbent will demonstrate a commitment to promoting social justice and human dignity and eliminating the impact of oppression in a collegiate mental health setting.  

This position is a full-tine, 12-month position reporting to the Director of Clinical Services.

The incumbent will be responsible for conducting all of the direct clinical services in the Mental Health service array, including screening and assessments, individual and group psychotherapy and rotating crisis on call coverage. The clinician requires generalist skills to be able to respond to a wide variety of presenting issues of college students. The Mental Health Department is open Mondays-Thursdays from 8:30AM to 6:00PM and Fridays from 8:30AM-4:30PM, thus the incumbent will be required to work two evenings per week until 6:00PM.  In addition, the staff member may serve as a clinical supervisor in the SHaW-Mental Health training program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Services

  • Provide culturally affirming and responsive clinical services, including: drop-in consultation and support, brief screening, initial assessment, crisis intervention, short-term individual psychotherapy and group counseling for UConn students.
  • Provide on-call coverage for the general student population on a rotating basis at SHAW-MH.
  • As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, work closely with APRN/Psychiatric prescribers, clinical case managers, and other members of the clinical counseling team to consult and collaborate to meet the mental health needs of the students.
  • Maintain clinical records and necessary statistics of psychotherapeutic and other patient contacts in the PyraMed electronic health record.
Outreach and Educational Programming
  • Conduct mental health and wellness educational programs for other University stakeholders, including orientation sessions, suicide prevention training, or other workshop presentations, and emergency support services to the campus community as required.
Training
  • Supervise and participate in training experiences for masters and doctoral level graduate trainees, as assigned.
Other Duties
  • Attend and participate in regular SHaW mental health staff meetings, case conferences, and in-service training.
  • Participate in other University committees, as assigned by the Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or related field.
  • Must possess or must obtain Connecticut Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker or related mental health counseling licensure within one year of hire.
  • One year of related experience, which may include hours for obtaining the license.
  • Previous experience as part of an interdisciplinary behavioral health care team.
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention.
  • Demonstrated understanding of ethical and legal issues in mental health practice.
  • Must have a demonstrated understanding of and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity issues in the delivery of clinical services.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience working in a comprehensive university counseling center, including partnering effectively and collegially on an interdisciplinary team with campus partners.
  • Currently licensed in the State of CT in a behavioral health field.
  • Demonstrated experience applying theories and practices related to the variety of collegiate mental health issues.
  • Demonstrated application of culturally responsive interventions.
  • Demonstrated training in brief treatment models.
APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 12-month position with an anticipated start date of July 2021.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
