Meta is looking for an Optical Deployment Engineer who will be responsible for the deployment and support of one of the world's largest and most complex networks. As a member of this team, you will have a unique opportunity to be involved in projects related to implementation & scaling of the optical network at Meta. The ideal candidate is an engineer who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and constantly evolving network. A quick learner, proactive, and highly motivated engineer that is not afraid to challenge the status quo, with a creative mind to find solutions and workarounds for day-to-day problems. As an Optical Deployment Engineer, you are not afraid to propose new ideas, gather constructive feedback from others, and push forward to make these ideas a reality.

Network Engineer, Optical Deployment, University Grad, Edge Network Services Responsibilities:

  • Deploy long haul terrestrial, regional metro, and subsea optical networks, connecting Meta data centers together across North and South America.
  • Be a collaborative teammate that will work across multi-functional groups and have the ability to learn and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting and repair of network hardware, software, and network links.
  • Perform network maintenance including hardware and software upgrades, migrations, decommissioning, and capacity upgrades.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation for the network infrastructure.
  • Manage and execute assignments through our internal task tools and repair ticketing systems.
  • Work cross-functionally to plan and execute on projects.
  • Create or follow an existing Methods of Procedure (MOPS) to execute standard network operational tasks.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
  • Detail oriented with troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Experience picking up new concepts around network design and management.
  • Experience communicating cross-functionally and solving problems under pressure.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience deploying optical networks.
  • Knowledge of optical theory, transport technologies and the operation of optical transport systems.
  • Knowledge of coding in at least one language (i.e. Python), preferably for network or systems automation with knowledge of scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of configuring and troubleshooting IP routing/switching technologies and protocols in a dual-stack environment.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP protocol, network management protocol, network routing protocol (like BGP), Layer 2 concepts (e.g. STP, VLANs etc.), ipv6 and network monitoring.
