The Miami Job Corps Center provides students with the opportunity to earn their High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED), and hands-on training in the following areas: Certified Nurse Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant, Medical Administration Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Plumbing, Painting, Security and Protective Services, HVAC, Landscaping, Electrical, and Building Construction Technology.

As a Non-Residential Counselor, you will play a crucial role in shaping the lives of our students and helping them overcome challenges on their path to personal and professional growth. Your main responsibility will be to provide personal/career counseling for students to enhance their employability and ensure their continued enrollment and quantifiable success in the Job Corps program. You will identify and remediate student barriers to success and develop individualized student career educational plans. You will also ensure strict confidentiality of sensitive information and the integrity of student data.

May be assigned Acting Counseling/CPP Manager in Counseling/CPP Manager's absence.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Responsibilities:

  • Mentorship and Guidance:
    • Build meaningful relationships with students, providing mentorship and guidance in their personal and academic pursuits.
    • Conduct regular one-on-one counseling sessions to address individual needs and challenges.
  • Personal Development Workshops:
    • Plan and facilitate workshops and group sessions focused on personal development, goal-setting, and life skills.
    • Collaborate with other counselors and educators to create a holistic and supportive learning environment.
  • Crisis Intervention:
    • Respond promptly to student crises, providing emotional support and coordinating appropriate resources.
    • Collaborate with the crisis intervention team to ensure a swift and effective response to urgent situations.
  • Advocacy and Support:
    • Advocate for the needs of students, ensuring they have access to the resources and support necessary for success.
    • Work closely with community organizations and partners to expand the range of support services available to students.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions and student progress.
    • Provide regular reports to the leadership team on student well-being and program effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (including at least 15 semester hours in Social Services-related instruction) from an accredited school required.
  • A minimum of one-year experience in counseling or related field.
  • Prefer previous Job Corps or related program experience.
  • Must possess a valid in-State Driver's License and meet Company insurability requirements.
