The Nurse Manager of Neurosciences ICU - 2W operationalizes the organization's mission, philosophy, operating principles, model of care, and strategic plans/goals. a) Develops, implements and evaluates annual department goals and objectives in alignment with the mission, philosophy, operating principles, model of care and strategic plans/goals. b) Ensures ongoing compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and professional standards impacting the

clinical area.

Position responsibilities:

  • Ensures staff knowledge and participation in quality improvement activities, including but not limited to The Joint Commission's core measure projects, National Patient Safety Goals initiatives, and NDNQI goals; evidenced-based projects and research activities (as appropriate). a) Conducts bi-annual review of all unit-specific policies/procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and evidenced based practice. b) Communicates current professional nursing standards that reflect standards of care for specific patient populations. c)Participates in house-wide quality and safety indicators and evidenced-based projects and establishes unit specific quality indicators.
  • Establishes unit based evidenced-based projects/research projects as appropriate. d) Utilize the patient safety communication system, identify opportunities for improvement and lead/participate in initiatives to improve quality and
  • safety e) Demonstrates improvement in the quality and safety of patient safety e) Demonstrate improvement in the quality and safety of patient care through an interdisciplinary unit_ based committee/mechanism, which monitors the effectiveness/appropriateness and outcomes of patient care.
  • Ensures qualified staff to meet patient/family care needs. a) Responsible for recruiting, interviewing and selecting staff in collaboration with Human Resources, staff and the multidisciplinary team as appropriate. b) Develop and maintain staffing guidelines. c) Ensure accuracy and timeliness of patient classification data or other primary workload statistics d) Provide educational opportunities for staff related to age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient care.
  • Promoting the nursing process, by ensuring clinical competence and service orientation of staff through effective and diverse teams. a) Collaborate with nursing education to provide comprehensive unit-specific orientation programs and yearly competency training. b) Facilitate/support opportunities for continuing education including in-services, seminars, conferences, and national certification. c) Utilize interdisciplinary resources for staff development. d) Communicate and ensure compliance with medical center and unit policies. e) Provide timely and constructive feedback related to all aspects of performance. f) Conduct coaching and counseling for performance improvement and succession planning.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing; Master's degree preferred.
  • MSN within 3-5 years of start date.
  • 1-2 years of previous job-related managerial experience; 3-5 years preferred.

Licensure/Certifications:
  • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
  • Current Registered Nurse License State of Illinois
