Under the direction of the Nurse Director of the BWPO's South Shore Endoscopy Center (SSEC), the Registered Nurse GI Case Reviewer will work as a critical member of the procedural care team to support the quality, efficiency and satisfaction of care taking place at the SSEC. The incumbent is responsible for specific patient care duties aimed to ensure the smooth running of the Center, including but not limited to. The ideal candidate should have GI nursing triage or GI/OR procedure experience. The RN will review the procedure order is placed, and they will review the schedule 2 weeks in advance of procedure date for appropriateness of scheduling. This individual will be responsible for reviewing the patient chart to the criteria for the appropriateness for anesthesia vs conscious sedation, and appropriateness for SSEC vs SSH. They will review if the patient is on anticoagulation therapy and work with the appropriate clinics for plans for management of anticoagulation therapy and the procedure. The nurse will review all Direct Referrals for appropriate scheduling. This individual will be responsible for working as a team to deliver the highest quality of GI care in the most effective and efficient manner. S/he possesses strong clinical, customer service, organization, and prioritization skills to support the smooth running of the center.

Responsibilities

The overall duties and responsibilities of this position include clinical and administrative activities:

1. Patient Care Responsibilities: Complete Chart Review for appropriateness of scheduling.

a. Supports the clinical team (physician, nurses, and administration) with the efficient process of patients undergoing GI procedures to ensure the appropriate place for the patient to have their procedure performed. The goal of this case review is to reduce the rescheduling of patient due to inappropriate scheduling by non- clinical staff.

b. The nurse will triage the chart if 2 criteria are met listed on the SSEC Anesthesia/Sedation guidelines to avoid inappropriate scheduling.

c. Responsible for entering all necessary Orders needed to complete appropriate scheduling for the GI procedure at SSEC or SSH.

d. The nurse will review the GI procedure orders in the GI scheduling Depot. S/he will determine appropriateness of scheduling for SSEC or SSH based on the clinical guidelines. They will review if there are anticoagulation management orders needed for management of this patient population and their procedures.

e. The nurse may need to assist the clinical team within the pre, peri, and post procedural areas with patient care support if needed.

2. Administrative Responsibilities:

a. Responsible for reviewing the GI procedure schedule, ensure required orders are in place, and s/he will work with the PCR MA and the Practice administrator to coordinate schedules at SSEC to ensure the patients are appropriately booked, all orders are in place and testing as required prior to the GI procedure is scheduled.

b. Responsible for the GI procedure prescreen process to ensure the clinical criteria GI procedure is met and scheduled appropriately.

c. Works as a team with the Practice Assistant and MA/PA to ensure our patients are prepared for the endoscopy procedure at SSEC.

d. May assist with other clinical duties at the direction of the SSEC Director of Nursing.

3. Customer Service / Teamwork:

a. Maintains a professional, courteous, and positive manner with all patient, provider, and staff interactions at the Center

b. Works collaboratively with all co-workers

c. Participates in achieving common goals of the unit

d. Share's knowledge and expertise and willing to teach others

e. Assists the Center's team, patients, and/or families as needed.

4. Communication:

a. Convey information clearly in writing and verbally with patients and co-workers

b. Listen with empathy

c. Accepts constructive criticism/feedback

d. Responds to inquires in a timely manner

5. Other duties as assigned to support the clinical and administrative needs of the GI Center.

Hours

Monday - Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

Qualifications
Requirements:

  • Current Registered Nursing License
  • GI clinical experience is required
  • Current CPR Certification and ACLS.
