This position assumes responsibility for the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients in the assigned department(s) on a twenty four hour basis; plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the overall clinical nursing practice and administrative activities, including fiscal, material and human resource management. Participates in the development and implementation of hospital policies and procedures, maintains open communication with all staff and administrative team to promote improvement in performance, assumes responsibility for the role of administrative supervisor as needed, and provides leadership and support to encourage the optimum development and performance of each staff member.

Education

Required - Registered Nurse Diploma

Preferred - Master's degree in Nursing


Work Experience
Required - 3 years-clinical nurse experience and one year of experience in a hospital environment for position as a manager, supervisor or charge nurse .


Certifications

Required - Current RN License in the state of practice, BLS, and ACLS.

PALS required if employed in area that treats pediatric population

Job Duties

  • Provides effective leadership to the assigned departments(s) of responsibility.
  • Conducts financial management.
  • Conducts resource management.
  • Participates in activities for professional growth and development.
  • Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer, including participation in Interdepartmental and Extracurricular Activities.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur.

The incumbent works with patients who have known or suspected communicable diseases and may enter isolation rooms. The incumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.
