Job Title: Operations Manager Department: Production

Essential Functions : To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Drive and implement the business plan for all departments to achieve facility goals and implement operational improvement.
  • Forecast staffing, workload, and performance results to meet business demands for all departments.
  • Implement cost reduction principle in all aspects of warehouse transactions and activities.
  • Supervise and manage associates as well as leaders by giving direction, monitoring performance, and providing feedback, identifying training and developmental needs by providing opportunities for lea rn ing and growth.
  • Undertake r esearch to improve all warehouse operations according to company's objectives.
  • In vestigate and recommend solutions to customer problems.
  • Develop and recommend improved operating methods and procedures to increase plant productivity.
  • Overseeing stock control and processing orders.
  • Produc e reports and statistics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to evaluate and analyze production results .
  • Maintain and monitor communication between all shifts and departments.
  • Maintain standards of safety and security in the work environment.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, directing and supervising warehouse supervisors in the performance of their assigned duties and achievement of department production, quality , and safety goals.
  • E nsur e p roduction schedules are maintained and customer's needs are met by the effective management of the material flow in the plant.
  • Trains and directs operation leadership in the performance of their assigned functions in order to achieve production goals.
  • C reat e and meet annual variable cost budgets for the department s managed.
  • Co llaborate and partner cross functionally across all departments in the facility.
  • Establish and control distribution costs including labor, materials, and overhead costs.
  • Identify areas for improvement and initiate problem-solving activities to improve performance.
  • Manage support staff, as assigned:
    • Train on TIPS, AS400, JDA platforms and any applicable business functions needed to perform the job.
    • Manage workload and priorities.
    • Ensure accuracy of work and deadlines are met.
    • Identify and work towards growth potential , as warranted .


Non-Essential Functions :

  • Knowledge of warehousing and distribution practices.
  • Working closely with the other department heads to assure proper staffing is always in place to handle the workload as needed.
  • Familiarity with computer systems, as well as warehouse management system s .
  • Working knowledge of LEAN concepts and ability to develop, train and implement concepts .
  • Must be able to shift priorities easily.
  • Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives.
  • Other duties may be assigned, directed, or requested.


Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred .
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Distribution Manager. Able to coach and mentor peers and subordinates to drive change.
  • 5-7 years of previous experience in distribution, logistics, operations planning and/or facility supervision and management.
  • Self-starter with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently .
  • Outstanding communication, organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills , with a strong emphasis on change management.
  • Computer knowledge including Excel, Word, Outlook is required .
  • Able to work flexible hours and travel overnight as needed .


Language Skills :

  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal .
  • Excellent listening skills .
  • Ability to write routine reports and compose word documents and Excel spreadsheets on laptop computer .
  • Fluent in English . Spanish is preferable.


Mathematical Skills:

  • Must have excellent mathematical and analytical skills.


Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form .
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Travel may be required.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, team environment .
