Underthe direction of the Central Processing Department leadership team, the CPD ORLiaison (ORL) is responsible for coordinating the timely delivery of sterileinstrumentation and supplies to designated service specialties throughout theoperating room. In conjunction with the CPD supervisor, the ORL develops andmaintains a close working relationship with the OR clinical team to providecomplete and timely resource support as well as troubleshooting any CPD-relatedissues that may arise in real time. Acting as an extension of the CPD team, theORL will also be required to undergo training and continuing competency of allCPD functions including, but not limited to decontamination, assembly &inspection and sterilization.

• Adheres to all BWH & Perioperative Services policies and procedures.
• Ensure completed case carts are moved to the designated Operating Room in a timely manner.
• Forecast designated service instrument & material needs in advanced.
• Meet regularly with the designated service line Assistant Nurse Director (AND) to discuss any changes that may occur in the schedule.
• Establish and maintain rapport with designated service line chief surgeons.
• Maintain open communication with both the OR clinical team and CPD leadership via Cisco phone, or other communication device as designated.
• Informs Flow Manager when schedules must be rearranged to avoid conflicts rooted from instrument shortages/limitations.
• Uses corresponding preference cards as a guideline to provide and adjust set-ups according to case details. Must identify errors and aid in correcting preference cards. Editing to be coordinated through designated AND.
• Assists equipment coordinators and central supply with providing extra equipment to avoid IUSS occurrences between cases.
• Resolves instrument, equipment and supply conflicts with OR nursing and/or CSS staff. Advises surgical technologist personnel on sterile field breakdown procedures and point-of-use treatment of soiled instrumentation.

• Daily review of the status of designated service emergency carts, ensuring adequate sterile instrument and supply stock levels in the clean holding area.
• Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of CPD-related processes and functions by successfully completing yearly competency evaluations.
• Attain and maintain IAHCSMM or CBSPD certification within a year from employment.
• In conjunction with the Inventory Controllers, facilitates and assists in coordinating the repair/replacement of damaged instruments for corresponding service lines.
• Presents on CPD-related subjects during designated service line meetings.
• Assists in the accurate reporting of a safety event.
• Other CPD duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications:

• High School Diploma / GED required. College diploma preferred. Experience with OR technical skill training may substitute
• Three to five years direct experience in procedure management, inventory control or in a perioperative setting with surgical instruments and supplies with in a hospital/clinical environment
• Some knowledge of surgical instrumentation, supplies and equipment and its relationship to surgical procedures is preferred
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft suite programs. (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
• Strong ability to communicate in English, orally and in writing.
• Ability to proofread documents and check for accuracy.
• IAHCSMM, CBSP, or surgical tech Certification required.
