Job Title: Pathology Lab Manager - Histology and Cytology
Job Summary: The Pathology Lab Manager for Histology and Cytology sections plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation and continuous improvement of laboratory processes. This position requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in laboratory management, customer service, and compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Uphold superior customer service standards.
- Develop and monitor metrics for service levels and initiate improvements as needed.
- Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality histologically and cytologically prepared slides and stains.
- Implement service recovery procedures when necessary.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff, Medical Director, and Pathologists to optimize workflow.
- Manage daily activities of histotechnicians, coordinating with department leaders.
- Ensure expertise within each functional area, adhering to Best Practice and Standard of Care.
- Collaborate with departmental leaders to enhance processes and patient care.
- Adhere to standards set by government agencies and regulatory bodies (e.g., CLIA).
- Conduct departmental meetings and facilitate effective communication.
- Provide guidance and direction to staff.
- Maintain optimal staffing levels within budget and productivity limits.
- Enforce operating policies related to quality control, patient experience, and safety.
- Assist the Medical Director in developing department budgets.
- Monitor expenses and lead cost containment efforts.
- Provide analytics to support new service initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- ASCP Histotech Certification.
- 4+ years of relevant laboratory experience in a clinical setting.
- 2+ years directly managing Laboratory Histology and/or Cytology operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively.
