Job Description
The Paulson Initiative Post-baccalaureate Fellow supports the Paulson Ecology of Place Initiative mission to connect students to their natural environment and sense of place, advancing inclusive excellence in our work. The Paulson Post-bac Fellow works with the Director to facilitate using the campus as a classroom, studio, and laboratory assisting in and creating a hub for materials, archives, data, reports and other information. The fellow also supports student programs, develops communication materials, and creates events in collaboration with the community. This role includes flexibility for exploring and developing professional interests. This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of extension depending on funding.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of a landscape "knowledge base" with support of Paulson director and in collaboration with faculty, staff and students
  • Create, design, and share inclusive communication/interpretive materials that provide a sense of belonging and connection to nature across our diverse community, including social media and quarterly newsletters
  • Assist in creating, organizing, and supporting events in collaboration with and in support of cultural organizations, departments, offices, and programs across campus that engage the landscape, justice, nature, sense of place
  • Support student programs, act as a near-peer mentor for students, and foster a culture of focused participation, inclusive teams, and community care
  • Maintain landscape monitoring programs for use in research, courses, and land management
Performance Profile
  • Supports the development of accurate, effective, and organized information across disciplines
  • Creates accessible and engaging communication materials and events
  • Provides effective support for faculty, staff, and students
  • Develops effective skills in mentoring diverse students and facilitating community care across a broad range of disciplines and projects
Supervisor Responsibilities
  • Near-peer mentoring of students (work-study, interns, independent research, fellows)
Education Required
  • B.S. or B.A. in any discipline
Experience Required
  • 2+ years experience (includes courses, internships, research and work-study positions) in an outdoor research, teaching, or learning setting
Skills and Abilities Required
  • Ability to manage projects and work independently toward short- and long-term goals and toward the larger mission of the Paulson Ecology of Place Initiative and the College
  • Ability and interest in collaborating effectively across a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and work with outside practitioners
  • Familiarity with basic information management and communication (i.e.creating engaging social media, interpretive signage) and interest in learning more
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Interest and/or experience in developing inclusive teaching, learning, and research mentoring skills, especially with diverse populations of undergraduate students
  • Passion for connecting people to their natural environment
