The Position

The Payroll Administrator will be directly responsible for day-to-day administration and execution of the Metal Process Group (MPG) platform payroll, tax, and compliance function through Ultimate Kronos Group (UKG) payroll system. The Payroll Administrator will be responsible for the design, maintenance and enforcement of payroll policies and will be the subject matter expertise and oversight of wage and hour compliance. The position will also design strategies for continuous improvement of payroll processes and will collaborate with cross-functional teams on company initiatives. The ideal candidate should be analytical and methodical with experience in payroll administration and in-depth knowledge of payroll processes and wage and hour law, especially for California and Washington State.

  • Process weekly, biweekly, and semimonthly multistate payrolls throughout five US companies for both union and nonunion employees.
  • Maintains current on payroll tax requirements and relevant laws associated with processing of employee wage data, including payroll taxes, garnishments, and any other payroll related functions.
  • Set-up and process all child support and garnishment orders.
  • Review and approve payroll deductions.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Lead weekly payroll audits and assist with internal audit review of controls and process compliance.
  • Ensure compliancy with federal, state, and local legal requirements across the Platform by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions using UKG system.
  • Administer all corporate plans according to plan documents and review and approve transactions, deposits, and funding as needed.
  • Lead communication and collaboration with other departments (i.e., accounting, accounts payable, human resources) on critical operational issues that involve the payroll function.
  • Manage the routine preparation of relevant reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year end reports.
  • Assist employees with payroll related inquiries.
  • Protect confidential payroll operation information and maintain employee confidence.
  • Propose best practice recommendations to senior leadership.

Job Requirements

  • Associates degree in Accounting or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred; CPP certification a plus.
  • 5-7 years of progressive payroll experience, preferably in manufacturing, production, or a related industry
  • Proven experience with multi-state payroll processing
  • Experience with payroll software and timekeeping systems; UKG experience highly preferred
  • Strong analytical and systems skills required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel skills
  • Exceptional prioritization skills required.
  • Result-driven with the ability to take initiative and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to balance work schedule and workload within multiple locations.
  • Professional and personable communication skills with all levels of the organization
  • Requires a high degree of accuracy with a well-developed attention to detail.
  • Possible travel may be required - less than 10%
