Job Description

SUMMARY
The coal petrographer is responsible for conducting microscopy on coal, blends, cokes, and non-maceral samples. The petrographer must be able to provide necessary feedback relating to their findings, discuss sample issues, and relay this information to management and clients in a professional manner. The petrographer must also be able to evaluate coals from around the world through petrographic techniques.

  • Reporting, drafting petrographic papers / reports / discussions

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • BS in Geology, Earth Science, Science, or Physics preferred
  • High School / GED - required
  • Minimum 5 years experience
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Mathematical Skills: minimum of basic Algebra and Trigonometrypreferred
  • Reasoning Skills/Abilities: required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills required

COMPUTER SKILLS (indicate if it is required or preferred)
  • MS Excel, Word, Power Point preferred
TRAVEL
  • Travels up to 5% of the time.
EQUIPMENT
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones.
  • List technical and specialized equipment or machines normally used in the course of the duties of this job. DO NOT include detailed description for common office equipment such as calculators, copiers, fax machines, etc.
  • Use of microscopes, calibration of microscopes, troubleshooting of microscopes

Location of the Job: Sophia WV

WORK SCHEDULE:
  • Business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule
  • Longer hours, evenings and/or weekend work may be required at times at Management discretion
