6. Develops and administers all pharmacy programs and services, ensuring prompt and accurate preparation and distribution of drugs and other pharmaceuticals to patients.
7. Evaluates new pharmaceutical drugs, supplies, and equipment, and prepares written reports for senior Hospital management detailing findings. Makes recommendations for acquisition of new or additional pharmacy equipment and supplies.
8. Interviews, hires, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges associates. Provides guidance and direction to supervisors in resolving complex employee relations matters.
9. Develops and maintains a quality control program, ensuring department functions in accordance with all Hospital standards, government and accrediting agency regulations, and the like.
10. Reviews inventory to ensure medications are properly stored and controlled, supplies are rotated, out dated stock is removed from inventory and returned to the necessary agency, inventory reorder points are efficient, and adequate quantities are available.
11. Develops and maintains an effective drug information service for physicians and other Hospital personnel in order to disseminate such information as warnings issued about certain drugs, incompatibility of drugs, new medications, and so forth.
12. Monitors processing of pharmacy charges, ensuring medications and supplies are properly entered and payments credited to each patient's account.
13. Develops and/or provides for in service education and up date programs for the pharmacy department as well as other hospital associates.
14. Regularly contacts pharmaceutical vendors in order to obtain bids and/or negotiate prices; establishes approved vendor sources and department purchasing parameters; and oversees acquisition, storage and distribution of supplies.
15. Duties & responsibilities include accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to patients, including those that may produce patient charges. If designated as a "Revenue Lead", additional responsibilities will include revenue reconciliation and charge-error correction as specified by departmental process and hospital policy.
16. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
Education: Requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or successful completion of the foreign pharmacy equivalency exam. Residency, PharmD or Master's degree in Pharmacy or Management preferred.
Licensure: Current Licensure as a Pharmacist by the State(s) of Indiana as required to complete essential job functions.
Experience: Must have a proficiency in the practice of pharmacy with an emphasis in supervisory/managerial skills, pharmacokinetic monitoring, nutritional consults, and drug information services that is usually obtained from graduation of an accredited college of pharmacy or passing of a pharmacy foreign equivalency examination and 4 to 6 years of hospital/institutional pharmacy practice experience. ASHP requirements must be met for the director of pharmacy overseeing the pharmacy residency program.
