SCHEDULE: 8:30AM-4:30PM -- 3 days per week.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services is seeking to hire part time Physician Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner to provide primary health care services. Selected candidate will be joining our staff of Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and other health care professionals.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Certification and current license as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the State of Nebraska.

PREFERRED: Experience working as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner within a clinical setting or equivalent experience. Experience in Mental Health preferred. Work experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in a correctional or institutional setting. Current CPR/ALCS certification preferred (required within one year of hire).

OTHER: If no licensed applicants are received, applicants who will be graduating from a PA or NP program within the next three months will be considered. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
Knowledge of: the Life Sciences including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Histology, and Embryology; the use and effect of modern drugs; primary care medicine as outlined by the Nebraska State Board of Medical Examiners for Physician Assistants.

Ability to: gain the confidence and cooperation of patients, the medical staff, and students; initiate primary care for patients when necessary; communicate orally and in writing with patients, family members and/or guardians, nurses, team members, and other medical staff; react effectively to medical and psychiatric emergencies.

Skilled in: interacting effectively with interdisciplinary teams toward providing medical care; clinical assessments and differential diagnosis; physical examination; basic CPR; interpreting laboratory data and x-rays; performing minor surgery; proctoscopy; the treatment of non-displaced fractures and casting; documenting observations and diagnosis.
