General Summary:

This position is responsible for supporting the plant and mining operations with engineering and project management activities that facilitate the safe, efficient, and sustainable growth of the materials business. Knowledge of general land use requirements, mining methods, geology, regulatory permits, and continuous improvement processes are advantageous

Job Description:

Essential Job Accountabilities

  • Determine and calculate production quantities and communicate to management to ensure their understanding of our cost to produce.
  • Prepare, implement and test SWPPP's, hazardous materials plans, in conjunction with the Environmental Department to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Perform operational improvement studies and recommend improvement or process modifications to ensure the most efficient operations are implemented.
  • Conduct and/or participate in safety audits and meetings to ensure a safe working environment at all times.
  • Prepare and prioritize maintenance and repairs of material processing equipment to ensure cost efficient maintenance schedules.
  • Manage spare parts inventories so crews can make efficient repairs.
  • Perform semi-annual inventory reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
  • Support plant manager, foreman and superintendents as needed to ensure the success of the operation.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other related field preferred or equivalent years of work experience.

Work Experience
  • 0-2 years of construction materials processing experience.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • General knowledge of materials business.
  • General knowledge of Hot Mix Asphalt Plants preferred.
  • Knowledge of Plant operations and mechanical requirements.
  • General understanding of federal, state and local laws, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish relationships with agencies and represent Granite in a public forum.
  • Public speaking skills and ability to communicate with management

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate a computer keyboard.   • Aid in the preparation of annual operating budgets and review monthly plant reports to ensure budgetary goals are met.
  • Research regulatory requirements and provide advice to management and project personnel to ensure compliance
  • Respond to plant manager, foreman, superintendent, materials sales, and quality management staff to ensure operational efficiency
  • Conduct and/or participate in safety audits and meetings to ensure a safe working environment at all times.
  • Determine and calculate production quantities and communicate to management to ensure their understanding of our cost to produce.
  • Support Materials Manager and Resource Development Manager by helping facilitate geologists, real estate professionals, engineers, and various consultants to obtain permits, land use entitlements for future projects and plant operations.
  • Prepare mine plans, maps, exhibits, and operating plans for existing and future operations, and assist in executing entitlement, public relations plans, and environmental review processes as assigned.
  • Assist in market research and analysis efforts
  • Produce purchase orders, subcontracts and contract change orders as needed to ensure accurate documentation of special projects and capital improvements
  • Track daily costs for special projects, key operations, and goal setting/evaluation
  • Review quality management test report data
  • Support plant manager, foreman and superintendents as needed to ensure the success of the operation

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • General knowledge of geology, material quality, mining methods, and material processing
  • Ability to work in high production environment and respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines
  • Demonstrated proficiency of MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Experience with CAD, SURPAC, ARC View, and ARC Pad a plus
  • Ability to establish relationships with agencies and represent Granite in a public forum

BA: Marketing, BS: Geology, BS: Mining Engineering
