Position Summary:

Position to focus on coatings applied to the surface of machined graphite parts but may also include carbon composite and/or other carbon-based materials. Activities will revolve around production support on equipment issues, process upsets and product quality assessments. This role will support production in establishing procedures to ensure stable and safe operation with consistent product quality. Involvement in areas other than coating will be required to fully understand and complete overall job responsibilities (VOG, Graphitization, Machining, Quality/Inspection, etc.).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Meet customer quality and performance expectations through process consistency.
  • Identify opportunities for scrap (COPQ) reduction and process efficiency improvements.
  • Develop and manage work package timelines and budgets to find product performance improvements.
  • Develop and define processes and procedures to establish a capable coating process for existing and new product designs.
  • Support operation of the CVD department concerning process engineering activities, i.e. work in response to specific quality issues or for process optimization.
  • Provide process/equipment analysis and data collection supporting complaint and COPQ events.
  • Establish effective metrology systems to properly control key product quality metrics.
  • Utilize measurement system analyses to assess metrology capability against required tolerances.
  • Implement and control effective SPC charting for key product metrics.
  • Define OCAPs (out of control action plans) for process failures to facilitate operation team's response.
  • Lead and participate in SPS (structure problem solving) activities to identify root causes for product and process failure events utilizing 5-why, fishbone, C&E matrix and other tools.
  • Support six-sigma and continuous development activities across the site.
  • Interface with other departments in St Marys to define and focus project activities.
  • Periodic reporting of activities as requested.

Your Profile:
  • BS degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline
  • Prior experience with CVD/CVI processing
  • Experience in MOCVD, LED, Epitaxial processing preferred
  • Experience with graphite and general ceramic materials
  • Experience in either production or R&D environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Expert knowledge of Excel, formulas, macros, VBA coding and data analysis is preferred
  • Ablity to apply statistical methodology to establish process capability
  • Advanced problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with materials characterization and physical property testing
  • Familiarity with computer programming
