PROCESS TECHNICIAN

SUMMARY

Process Technicians monitor the blow molding process, diagnose minor problems, make adjustments to control critical parameters, and ensure that the equipment is operating in a safe and efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Diagnose and correct machine, tooling, and secondary equipment problems.
  • Make adjustments to molding machines and related secondary equipment to correct or improve the production process.
  • Start and stop all machines, clear jam ups and restart all machines
  • Assist in the training of Machine Operators to start and stop the blow molding equipment.
  • Perform lock out/tag out when necessary.
  • Ensure good parts are being produced, reduce waste and minimize
  • Measure and document weights and wall balance.
  • Verify machine cycle times.
  • Follow safety procedures and company policies for equipment operation and identify and report unsafe operations to your Supervisor immediately.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency and safety.
  • Pursue and contribute toward the goal of cost reduction.
  • Commitment to the process of continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent required with knowledge of the manufacturing process, procedures, and machinery. Prior one year experience in manufacturing setting.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.

Working on shop floor will involve having exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes, odors, and grime of machinery. The work environment is typically warm to hot.

The workload and work pace caries from moderate to high pace.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Must be able to identify and correct inconsistencies in the process that may be causing unacceptable ware. Ability to do basic troubleshooting and making adjustments. Ability to perform data entry tasks.

SUMMARY

Sets up molding machines per validated parameters. Performs autonomous maintenance and makes process adjustments to meet product specifications and quality standards. Maintains cleanliness and order of work area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

§ Sets-up, installs, adjusts, repairs, tests, calibrates, and may operate production line machinery.

§ Troubleshoots machinery and equipment as needed.

§ Implements programs to standardize and minimize production changeovers and machine downtime.

§ Installs mold-printing board in machine and tightens thumbscrews or inserts wedges to secure it.

§ Observes thermometer and turns steam valve to maintain specified temperature in melting hopper.

§ Opens valve or starts pump to fill hopper of depositing unit with fluid.

§ Starts machine and turns handwheels to synchronize flow of candy from depositing spouts with speed of mold board as it passes beneath spouts for filling.

§ Weighs formed products for adherence to specifications and regulates spouts to increase or decrease flow accordingly.

§ Abides by and executes all safety protocols.

§ Keeps work area clean and organized.

§ Performs preventative maintenance as needed.

§ Works day or night shift depending on schedule.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

§ High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical certification in maintenance or related field preferred.

§ Knowledge of and/ or previous experience in blow molding, injection molding or extrusion molding required.

§ Must have strong mechanical and electrical knowledge with an understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, and electronics.

§ 3-5 Years of Machine Operations experience (Injection Blow Molding/Plastics Manufacturing) is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. Frequently exposed to extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
