Position Summary

The Product Owner is the primary relationship manager and voice of the Investment Teams for the Global Private Equity (GPE) segment as it pertains to deal valuation technology. This person will translate needs of the 400+ investment professionals and supporting functions across GPE into technical requirements to drive efficiency and through the deal valuation process.

This Product Owner will be responsible for the following Products:

  • Investment book of record
  • Valuation templates and their surround technologies
The Product Owner will partner with Global Technology Services (IT) and segment leadership to create and maintain product roadmaps and backlogs that align with the Firm's strategic goals and priorities. They will work closely with external technology vendors like Chronograph to help ensure accountability. The ideal candidate requires deep domain knowledge and expertise to provide the appropriate level of guidance for the IT Agile team. Furthermore, the Product Owner will work with IT leads, Scrum Masters, and a dedicated cross-functional team to create and maintain a list of prioritized backlog items based on strategy and goals. This is a pivotal role in the Agile Operating model that requires a full-time commitment focused on the responsibilities outlined in this document.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

Product Development
  • Works with stakeholders throughout the transaction process to understand roles, responsibilities, and execution processes
  • Maximizes the value of delivered products to ensure they meet stakeholders' needs
  • Empowered ultimate decision maker for the product, responsible for defining its vision, and prioritizing features/stories according to business value
  • Understands end to end relevant value streams of key capabilities within respective team, domain, and focus area
  • Works with the team to breakdown capabilities and/or value streams into backlog items (epics, stories, etc.) and prioritizes backlog for the team
  • Consistently engages with agile team to provide enough information to estimate amount of work and activities for value streams and helps slot them onto the rolling four quarter roadmap
  • Works closely with the Scrum Master to understand team dynamics, morale, and capacity to ensure we are not burning the team out
  • Prepares material for monthly domain meetings, based on guidance from Domain Lead
  • Defines, tracks, and socializes team-level KPIs with Domain Lead and Executive Sponsor
  • Provides monthly release updates to leadership stakeholders (Domain Leads and Executive Sponsors)

  • Represents stakeholders/end users of a product
  • Communicates to end user community on consistent basis
  • Provides hands-on training to end users as needed and can translate their needs into business requirements for the team
20Production Support
  • Works with our GTS technical leads to understand technical debt and other technical impediments at a high level so that they can be prioritized on the roadmap
  • Identifies and escalates capacity, resource, and deliverable risks as needed
  • Works with GTS Partner to manage vendor relationships

Qualifications

Knowledge and ExperienceWhile structured learning and coaching will be provided, the following qualifications are recommended:
  • Minimum of 5 years of overall professional experience, required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in an Agile environment, strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good knowledge of private equity/asset management business, value streams, and technology and a deep, tactical way of thinking
  • Ability to translate strategic directions and business objectives into goals
  • Know how to break down key features into appropriate user stories
  • Experience running high-impact initiatives within the organization
  • Effective delegator with proven management of cross-functional teams without direct supervision
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and can differentiate between distractions and the roadblocks that can impact goals
  • Ability to drive consensus among stakeholders, manage expectations, and build strong relationships
Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner Certification preferred
