Waubonsee Community College is accepting applications for part-time Professional Tutors.

Tutors are responsible for providing support with the mastery of concepts and applications. They integrate effective study and learning strategies, thereby maximizing the students' potential to become independent learners and achieve academic success during individual walk-in, virtual, appointment based, or group tutoring.

Reporting to the Academic Support Coordinator, tutors provide subject matter expertise and serve as models for students in the techniques, strategies, attitudes, and beliefs of successful learners. Assistance might include reviewing class material, discussing problems, reviewing test questions, or working on solutions to problems.

This position requires a professional with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to effectively use technology to enhance tutoring sessions.

Successful Tutors employ a holistic approach to student success, bring passion and enthusiasm to the Tutoring Centers, and are collaborative with students, faculty and colleagues. They work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities.

We are looking for tutors in the following areas:

Writing

Biology

Chemistry

Physics

General Math

Algebra, Geometry

Calculus

Anatomy & Physiology

Minimum Qualifications

Master's or Doctoral degree in subject matter or related field.
Previous teaching, tutoring, or delivering academic support at the high school or college level experience preferred.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people.
Appreciation for, and sensitivity to, cultural differences.
Demonstrate strong clerical and organizational skills.
Basic Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suites.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

Basic Knowledge of Zoom or Microsoft Teams
Basic Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (Canvas)
