Context of the Position:

The University of Delaware invites applications for the position of Program Coordinator for Student Engagement & Immigration Services. Under the general direction of the CGPS Associate Director for Student Engagement, the Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for the planning, implementation, support, and evaluation of services and programs that enhance the educational and social experience of international students, scholars, and their families, at the University of Delaware. The person in this position will also collaborate with faculty, university administrators, staff, students, and members of the local community in addressing the unique needs of the global population at UD.

The Program Coordinator also provides a wide range of immigration advising and support services to international students, scholars, and employees and serves as a resource to university departments. The person in this position will advise and provide support services to sponsored international students and students enrolled in non-degree and other special programs, including those at the English Language Institute (ELI).

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Engagement and Programming (60%)

  • Collaborates and liaises with various campus partners and the leadership team at CGPS to plan engagement and programs for international students and scholars.
  • Provides logistical support for sessions, workshops, and other events throughout the year, including the International Coffee Hour, orientation programs, field trips, etc.
  • Provides leadership and guidance of student-led initiatives and organizations, including the iBuddy Mentoring Program and the International Student Advisory Committee.
  • Devises programs that would benefit the larger international community, such as Study Abroad students and faculty, World Scholars students, and beyond in support of campus internationalization efforts of CGPS.
  • Provides support in developing co-curricular programming and goals to build community and support academic success among the international student community.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Immigration Services (40%)

  • Advises and assists the international population, primarily in F and J visa status, regarding all non-immigrant compliance issues, such as visa adjustments, employments, travel, and reentry into the country.
  • Prepares and issues immigration documents (I-20/DS-2019) for students and their dependents.
  • Monitors and resolves individual government compliance issues as they arise; work closely with department administration on maintaining immigration reporting requirements and compliance standards.
  • Registers, coordinates, and monitors all documentation and reporting regarding international students' information through SEVIS to ensure accuracy and compliance with DHS regulations.
  • Serves as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for non-immigrant students & scholars on F-1 and J-1 visas.
  • Works in collaboration with academic departments, the ELI, assistant deans, and academic advisors to ensure that non-degree students receive appropriate advising prior to enrollment at the
  • University, as well as during the transition from ELI status to matriculated status.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of immigration regulations regarding international students, visiting scholars and faculty visas.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Intermediate expertise with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other web-based software, such as People Soft, Terra Dotta and Slate.
  • Effective interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations and workshops.
  • International experience that may include studying, living, or working abroad.
  • Program planning and management experience preferred.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Demonstrated experience as part of a team and service-oriented work environment.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures and backgrounds.
  • Committed to fostering a workplace culture of belonging, where diversity is celebrated and equity is a core value.
  • Knowledge of student records systems and U.S. government SEVIS program preferred.
  • Experience advising international sponsored students preferred.
  • Ability to operate in fluctuating and fast-paced situations preferred.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency is required, as mandated by DHS and SEVP federal regulations.
