Primary Job Purpose

The Project Manager III manages large-scale projects or multiple, concurrent projects from inception through project close-out. The Project Manager III leads teams of people to ensure that project objectives remain consistent with the overall business strategy and are achieved on schedule. The Project Manager III ensures project(s) are delivered on schedule and within budget, while satisfying agreed-upon customer requirements and specifications within the scope of the project. The Project Manager III effectively applies formal company-approved project management methodology to accomplish the goals of the project. They are responsible for the appropriateness, quality, and timeliness of all aspects of the project. They manage the production of project estimates, develops project plan and schedule, establishes measures and milestones, and tracks ongoing progress, while proactively managing risks, issues, scope and human resources through the project life-cycle. They are a team player that effectively manages concurrent projects and delivers timely, accurate, and quality results.

The Project Manager IV manages large-scale, very complex projects or multiple related projects (projects) in support of one particular mission or business theme. The Project Manager IV oversees all aspects of complex projects or programs, such as change in direction, scope, benefits, costs, and timing while minimizing financial risks and oversees the project activities of multiple project managers and works closely with management to ensure successful delivery of the project to department standards.

General Functions and Outcomes

  • Responsible for delivering projects to successful completion; accountable for the quality and timeliness of all defined projects, and for issues (goals, resource allocation, release planning, technology architecture, etc.) within the projects.
  • Mentor and develop project management skills in project managers.
  • Contribute to the development of, and ensure adherence to, company adopted project management methods.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate and report project management activities in accordance with Enterprise Program Management Office policies and standards.
  • Responsible for overseeing multiple projects ensuring timely deliverables within budgetary constraints.
  • Manages the overall project plan(s). Prepares and presents project plans and status reports to organizational leadership, project teams and client/customer groups.
  • Responsible for project outcomes through effective project planning, task definition, scope management, resource allocation and negotiation, risk mitigation, cost management, and stakeholder communication.
  • Assembles project team, assigns individual responsibilities, identifies appropriate project resources and provides guidance and direction to project team members.
  • Defines, collects and analyzes metrics to ensure projects are on target.
  • Proactively recommends courses of action to maintain cost effectiveness.
  • Stay current on new project management methodology.
  • Ensure timely resolution of problems within the scope of the assignment.

Minimum Requirements
  • Familiarity with the Project Management Institute (PMI) Guide and the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).
  • Demonstrated project portfolio of successful, progressive project management with at least 5 years' experience. This includes a leadership role in the execution of large-scale, concurrent projects. (Greater than $1 million with team of 10).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading multi-disciplinary, high-performance work teams. Familiarity with automated project management software tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, mediate issues, develop solutions and implement a course of action.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) with a customer service orientation.
  • Ability to mitigate project milestones/deliverable delays and critical resource allocation issues from the work breakdown schedule. Skilled in the identification, assessment and contingency planning for risk factors.
  • Functional competencies include Budgeting, Change Management, Client Management, Methodology Approach and Business Life Cycle, Mission /Vision/Strategy, Project Planning and Organization, Risk Management.
  • Demonstrated success at meeting project budget, timelines, and requirement targets and managing variances.
  • Demonstrated presentation experience to all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated experience working with business sponsors and partners to identify and implement solutions.
  • Proven ability to motivate teams to achieve defined deliverables and be able to work effectively with clients.
  • Demonstrated success at mentoring and developing project management skills in project managers. Exceptionally strong leadership skills.

Normally to be proficient in the competencies listed above

The Project Manager III would have a Bachelor's degree in Business management or related field and 5 years of experience in project and/or program management or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Project Manager IV would have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field and 10 years of experience in project and/or program management or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of three years' experience in supervisory/management role preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent work experience.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registration, Etc.

Certificate in Project Management strongly preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a strong plus.

The base pay annual salary range for the Project Manager III job is $91,500.00 - $149,000.

The bonus target for this position is 15%.

The base pay annual salary range for the Project Manager IV job is $110,500 - $180,500.

The bonus target for this position is 15%.
