What youwill do

In thisposition the individual is responsible for finding solutions or processes tocreate engineering prototypes for new product development; add value to, finetune, simplify and cost reduce new and legacy product designs; create newproduct prototypes using CAD/CAM, CNC and additive manufacturing technologysuch as 3-D printing and responsible for the final assembly of concept modelsincluding color match, finishing and top coat application.


In additionto building new product concept models and functional prototypes, theindividual is responsible for the design and fabrication of tools and fixturesfor product assurance, research, benchmarking and implementation of newtechnologies and processes that will be used to expand capabilities, reducecycle time and improve quality.


How you willdo it

  • Workdirectly with engineering design teams to build concept models and functionalprototypes for all new hardware products.

  • Work withCAD data provided by the design teams, plan and execute a plan to build parts,assemblies or complete functional prototypes.

  • Design andbuild tools and fixtures to be used in the manufacturing and assembly process.

  • Setup andoperate conventional and CNC machining centers, wire and sinker EDM machinesand 3-D printers

  • Carryoutfinishing, painting and final assembly of prototypes.

  • Analyze newproduct designs and make recommendations for changes that will enhancefunctionality, improve product reliability, enhance product features and reducecost.

  • Buildprototypes, run rigorous repetitive cycles, identify and record problem areas,and make modifications to components as needed.

  • Evaluate newhardware and software tools that could be used to create product prototypeseither internally or outsourced through service bureaus. Attend tradeshows, meet with other CAD/CAM users, perform internet searches and contactsoftware developers to request demo software for evaluation. Runbenchmarking tests that determine product features, electronic data processingspeed and hardware requirements.


What we look for

  • University degree such as technology art & design applied engineering and prototyping or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • This job is broad in scope and requires a wide variety of CAE analytical and machining skills as well as hands on use of all shop tools.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • The ability to plan organize and execute plans in an efficient fashion.

  • Proficient use of CAD/CAM tools, additive and subtractive manufacturing processes. (Creo design software and MasterCam experience a plus)

  • In depth understanding of color match and application of water based, acrylic urethane and acrylic lacquer finishes.

  • Proficient use of woodworking tools.

  • Understanding of plastic injection mold tooling design, a plus.
