Job Description:

***This position is eligible for up to two days remote work per week.

BASIC FUNCTION

Broaden the reach and awareness of Salve Regina University locally, regionally, and nationally through the creation and execution of strategic and creative public relations and media outreach initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and implement publicity plans for strategic University priorities, and notable student/faculty achievements, research, projects, and events.
• Cultivate and sustain meaningful relationships with members of the press locally, regionally, and nationally.
• Write press releases, analyze media coverage, and handle appropriate follow-ups and/or responses.
• Identify and develop key contacts with city and state officials, local organizations, and other influencers for areas of synergy to increase the awareness of Salve with their audiences.
• Create talking points and train/prepare University staff and faculty for media opportunities and interviews.
• Coordinate publicity for the University and respond to media requests for information about lectures, events and exhibits, conferences and general programs

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop a "go-to" list of faculty experts, and proactively connect with key/broadcast editors and producers to be a resource for information.
• Leverage faculty experts through the creation of timely media pitches that tie to current/trending news.
• Monitor media placements as well as competitive industry news and share insights with university leadership.
• Maintain up-to-date media lists, internal email lists, and public information databases.
• Leverage software systems such as Merit and Cision to maximize reach and mentions of Salve, in coordination with the content marketing team.
• Develop regular reporting to document viewership and coverage trends.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

• A bachelor's degree with minimum of five years of experience in a related field.
• Experience creating, implementing, and tracking success of public relations and/or media strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to write effectively with excellent attention to detail.
• Avid consumer of local and national news, current events, and social trends.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Over 5 years of experience in public relations, media, or communications position.
• Previous work in higher education or other complex industry.
• Experience simplifying complex projects or issues into talking points and pitches.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to influence and motivate others.
• Knowledge of AP Style.
