Job Responsibilities

Develop a process to perform hourly QC checks in each area:

  • Pultrusion
    • Perform hourly QC tests on rod from each die cavity
    • QC tests include checking critical dimensions, performing hardness tests, and flexural or double shear testing
    • Spot check glass strands to make sure the right number of lines are being used for the product being produced
    • Equipment includes dial indicators, calipers, Phase II Rockwell hardness tester, and flex testing equipment
  • Cut Off
    • Check if rods are being cut within tolerance and mark if dimensions are good or bad on the QC hourly sheet
    • Rods must be checked to their drawing at a tolerance of +/- 1mm
      • If rods are out of tolerance or nearly out of tolerance, adjustments need to be made immediately to the saw
    • Check tags for proper color, lot #s, and product
    • Equipment used; steel ruler, calipers, Go-NoGo Gauges
  • Molding
    • Check critical dimensions of a complete shot from each machine
    • Check collar placement, alignment and color
    • Check tags for proper color, lot #s, and product
    • Equipment used; steel ruler, calipers
  • Foam
    • Check with operators hourly to verify tolerances and procedures are being checked and done correctly
    • Check data for trends and report graphed data to Owens Corning
    • Verify that the foam is the correct type and size according to the drawing at each work station
    • Equipment used: Tape measure, steel ruler
  • Develop procedures to hand QC from one shift to the next shift QC tech
    • Such as; segregated parts, trouble areas, short shots and changeovers/maintenance on molding machines
  • Assist with production and other duties as assigned (consult with shift supervisor)

Monthly Duties

  • Check all calipers and equipment on internal calibration log (quarterly)
  • Examine and compile data from QC Logs into plots that show relevancy
    • Graphs for foam
    • Other charts/graphs as needed
  • Clean all QC equipment and work station
  • Maintain/organize all documents pertaining to QC

Other Duties

  • Assist supervisor with training involving QC duties
  • Work with Production and Operations Managers to develop new procedures and to discuss corrective actions
  • Assist the third-party inspectors during quarterly audits
  • Maintain Customer Complaint Log and CAR Log
  • Maintain Calibration Log
  • Maintain and Update QC boards
    • Include procedures, notes, cheat sheets, and examples
  • Maintain and Update QC VOP's
  • Assist in time/motion studies as pertains to QC
  • Communicate status of QC program
    • Give feedback as to improvement/issues regarding the QC program
    • Elaborate on any problems that have occurred and solutions being implemented
  • Perform root cause analysis to determine PCAR and CAR problems
    • Implement corrective actions determined by CAR when necessary
    • Investigate any problems that arise concerning QC
  • Notes
    • (CAR- Corrective Action Report)
    • (PCAR- Preventative Corrective Action Report)

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ working at a plant/manufacturing environment
  • Experience with QC and safety procedures
  • Computer knowledge - ie. Microsoft Office/Excel
  • Strong sense of urgency and proven track record of improving process
