The Cardiovascular Research subgroup that conducts studies in the area of coagulation factor disorders. We are looking for a highly motivated and versatile individual capable of performing two critical roles:

1. In vitro techniques including (but not limited to) cell culture, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, ELISAs, immunoassays, platelet activation and aggregation and

2. 2) In vivo duties ranging from blood draws to small animal microscopic surgeries to conducting bleeding and thrombosis challenge models in mice and rabbits. These methodologies/protocols have already been developed and approved, so an individual with experience conducting in vitro assays and are proficient with performing procedures on animals is highly desired.

As an R&D Specialist in the Cardiovascular group, a typical day may include the following:

- Independently plan, initiate and complete the following types of in vitro assays: Cell culture, IHC, ELISAs, Western blotting, Enzymatic assays and platelet activation and aggregation studies

- Proficiency with in vivo operations: Animals handling, anesthesia, drug dosing, tissue and plasma collections

- Demonstrated skills in small animal microscopic surgery is preferred

- Perform routine calculations for drug formulation and dosing, manipulations with minimal supervision

- Outstanding ability to communicate experimental results to project team and/or supervisor and present data at team meetings

- Accurately document findings and lab records in laboratory notebook and as soft copies.

Responsibilities (total 100%)

Planning and execution of In vitro and in vivo work: 80%

Necropsy/plasma/tissue collection: 10%

Lab notebook/record keeping: 5%

Presentation of the data: 5%

This role may be for you if you are:

- Trainable to support and independently perform in vivo bleeding and thrombosis studies

- Capable of learning new methods and/or technologies relevant to the projects

- Able to routinely work on multiple projects simultaneously

Requirements:

This position requires a minimum of a Bachelors degree and 5+ years of experience, which should include:

A basic understanding and knowledge of cardiovascular biology with an emphasis on thrombosis and haemostasis

Experience with cell culture (includes cell transfection), IHC, Western blotting, immunoassays and activity assays

Experience working with blood (plasma and platelets)

Knowledge of and hands-on experience with rodent models of thrombosis and haemostasis; 3+ years of experience using techniques to induce thrombosis in rodents

Familiarity with sample collection (blood and tissue) and proficiency in administration of compounds (via s.c/i.p/i.v routes)

Experience in rodent histology staining, imaging and histopathology evaluation are desired

Computer skills such as experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad Prism, SPSS, and ADInstruments Lab Chart

Strong organization and communication skills

Effective interpersonal skills

Ability to learn new technologies/methods, and troubleshooting

Ability to work in a team environment
