The primary function of the Refinery Yard Operator will be to learn all functions of the Bulk Material Handler and Scale House Operator position as part of the Operator training. This will allow the refinery yard operator to transition smoothly into Operations as soon as a position becomes open. The Bulk Material Handler functions are to perform the sampling, monitor and load/unload incoming trucks and railcars, monitor tank levels, and perform transfers of material within the tank farm, on a daily basis. This position will also function as the scale house operator on an as needed basis. This position reports to the Operations Manager.
One position will work from 10a-6p Monday - Friday and another position will work a 12 hour rotating shift. The refinery process is a 24/7 operation, so work hours will require nights weekends, and/or holidays. Scheduled hours for the night position is 6pm-6am Thursday-Wednesday and then off Thursday-Wednesday. 7 days on and 7 days off.

Health, Safety, and Environmental

  • Rigidly adhere to safe work practices/procedures set forth by regulating authorities and the company and never compromise the safety of any personnel, company, or contractor.
  • Will be required to undergo periodic industrial safety training as required by regulating authorities and the company.
  • Wear all proper PPE including fall protection when required.
  • Ensure environmental and regulatory compliance.
  • Report all incidents/injuries/near misses to your supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain a "zero-spill" mentality at all times to protect the environment.
  • Check all equipment for safe and efficient operations. Report any issues to the Operations Manager and the on-duty Lead Operator immediately.
  • Individual will be able to drive powered fork trucks and be aware of their load limits.
  • Participate in accident or incident investigations as required.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties that may include changing containment booms around all drainage areas as required. Keeping areas around Loading and unloading area clean of debris. Keeping track pan drains free from obstructions, including gravel. Ensuring the rail sump is pumped when level is present. Any other housekeeping assignments as assigned.
  • Ensure that all trucks are chalked and have jack stands as required by DOT and OSHA.
  • Ensure that all third-party vendors are using proper fall protection while on top of their tanks.
  • Ensure that all third-party vendors are correctly hooking and unhooking their hoses correctly.

Operations
  • Use basic tools: pipe wrench, crow bar, pliers, screwdrivers, etc.
  • Calculate levels in tanks using basic math.
  • Carry and communicate on a 2-way radio to respond to all calls.
  • Communicate with Operations Supervisor to ensure paperwork is in order on a daily basis.
  • Communicate with the Refinery Lead operator on tank lineups and gauges prior to loading/offloading/transferring.
  • Responsible for monitoring his/her assigned company email for up-to-date company information including work schedules, work instructions, production updates, etc.
  • Ensure all procedures for loading and offloading are followed.
  • Sample incoming trucks per procedure.
  • Monitor incoming trucks brining in in used motor oil, antifreeze, and oily water.
  • Monitor outgoing trucks taking out asphalt and wastewater.
  • • Monitor the loading/unloading operations the entire time the pump is moving product to or from the truck.
  • Perform maintenance, housekeeping, or other activities in the warehouse, truck rack, and dock area as directed by supervisor.
  • Train relief personnel on operations as needed.
  • Monitor tank levels and transfer inventory in/out as needed.
  • Understand and troubleshoot basic pump operation: cavitation, seal leaks, vibration, etc. in order to maintain efficient equipment.
  • Adequately stock operational and emergency supplies.
  • Operate a basic pressure washer.
  • Complete operator training modules 1-5.
  • Perform any other assignment as directed by the supervisor.

Scale House Operator
  • Conduct scale operations.
  • General clerical duties such as: answering the telephone, operating the copy/fax machine, data entry, and completing and compiling paperwork accurately.
  • Responsible for monitoring his/her assigned company email for up-to-date company information including work schedules, work instructions, production updates, etc.
Training
  • Willing to learn plant operations and perform basic maintenance as requested.
  • Will be required to undergo periodic industrial safety training as required by regulating authorities and the company.
  • Will be required to complete any assigned training necessary to performing essential job duties.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour based upon experience
