PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

This individual will be responsible for implementation of wellness programming particularly in the area of oncology, weight management, nutrition education, disease prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyle choices. The Registered Dietitian Wellness/Oncology Professional will support all wellness initiatives including but not limited to: communications and marketing, budget management, outcome measurement and reporting. This individual will provide outpatient counseling to oncology patients. The RD Wellness/Oncology Professional will work closely with the CNM and reports directly to the CNM.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBLITIES

Duty 1: Coordinate Wellness Program in BVHS Cafeterias: Establish wellness standards for BVHS retail cafeterias and in-house catering programs. Educate FNS staff with information about products and ensure they are able to answer questions concerning food servings and healthy choices. Promote wellness offers on the Core, in Branches, in the Newsletter, on the Retriever, in the Courier. Perform wellness audits at BVHS cafeteria locations.

Duty 2: Coordinate, teach and offer nutrition and wellness education sessions to all BVHS. Associates Responsible for development and implementation of Wellness Programs and education classes for BVHS associates with grocery store tours, reading labels, what to eat when, etc. in a monthly Lunch and Learn atmosphere

Duty 3: Participate and champion community wellness initiatives. Collaborate with other health professionals and community leaders to solidify our role as a Wellness and nutrition leader in the BVHS Organization, the community, and area businesses. Partner with local businesses to promote Wellness and provide onsite education/training/learning programs.

Duty 4: Coordinate National Nutrition Month program and activities

Duty 5: Market Sodexo partnership with the Mindful throughout the BVHS locations: Participate in community presentations via television and/or social media with our Wellness initiative. Assist Retail Managers bringing healthier options to our Cafeteria and Healing Grounds Kiosk. Produce Wellness & You Newsletter and Website for Department's Wellness Initiatives.

Duty 6: Stay abreast of national wellness trends and oncology nutrition therapy to implement changes in the BVHS program as needed.

Duty 7: Maintain ongoing communication with key leaders in the organization to establish goals and identify results of BVHS wellness program.

Duty 8: Uses the nutrition care process to assess and implement the plan of care for assigned oncology patients, including consultations as requested by the physician. Patients are followed up according to plan of care.

Duty 9: Appropriately identifies the need for nutrition support. Works with nursing and medical staff to ensure the patient receives optimal nutrition care. Calories and protein are properly calculated to patient's height weight, and age. Properly calculates additional nutrient levels based on patient assessment. Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical policies and procedures.

Duty 10: Educates individuals and groups utilizing appropriate techniques and materials. Materials are up to date and approved for use by the Clinical Nutrition Supervisor. Utilizes Power Point for group presentations when appropriate.

Duty11: Assures compliance to Joint Commission, Ohio Department of Health and other regulatory agencies. Follows all department policies and procedures.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. Degree in Dietetics or a similar area of concentration from an accredited institution.
  • Must be Registered Dietitian or Registration eligible. Registration and licensure to practice Dietetics in Ohio is required within 30 days of commencement of position.
  • Wellness and Nutrition Coaching certification, achieve within one year of hire
  • Experience with metric management and reporting.
  • This individual must also have excellent customer service, communication, coaching and organizational skills.
  • The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with diverse populations, a team player, self-directed, able to interact with Department Management Team, Clinical Staff, and other staff professionals
  • A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within one year of your residency in the state) and you must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy requirements
  • Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures. Considers culture and religious preferences and beliefs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1-3 years' experience in health promotion or health management preferred.
  • Board Certification as a Specialist in Oncology Nutrition desired.
  • Additional credentials and experience preferred includes: a Master's degree in a Health Promotion Management, Counseling or related field.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit continuously for six hours a day and stand for one hour a day. The individual must be able to lift twenty to fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity for simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle for business travel and community involvement.
