RNs in the Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit enjoy providing care that includes managing critical drips, pulling sheaths after cardiac catheterization, managing arrhythmias and educating patients and families about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Efficient work flow for RN's is made possible through the use of technology such as bed-side charting and bar coded medications.

At the heart of our successful cardiac service line is our highly engaged nursing leadership that is exceptionally responsive to the needs of both patients and RN's. This is shown through consistently high employee satisfaction scores which reveal that RN's in the Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit have a strong degree of confidence in the supervisor's abilities, in the belief that employees are treated fairly and that the supervisor cares about them as a person.

Our preceptor-based orientation program is tailored to the needs of every individual. The length of orientation varies with the amount and type of experience each RN brings, but typically lasts 3 months.

Our unit features a Unit based Educator who provides continuing educational support for RN's. In partnership with our Educational Services Dept, our Educator has developed a wide variety of classes that provide RN's with in-depth information on topics such as current drug therapies in the treatment of cardiac conditions and the use of technical devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators.

Training also includes attending ECCO (Essentials of Critical Care Orientation) which was developed by American Association of Critical Nurses (AACN).

For those RNs who are not currently certified for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), this course is included during orientation.
