Position Overview

Novelis in Uhrichsville (formerally known as Aleris, IMCO Recycling, and Commonwealth Aluminum) is seeking a Reliability Engineer to ensure the Reliability of our manufacturing unit processes by:

  • Stabilizing and improving the performance of physical assets by reducing machine downtime and unscheduled maintenance
  • Defining and setting standards for the proper management and care of assets and installations
  • Ensuring optimum levels of availability at the lowest total cost of ownership.
This individual will be a primary source of education to the manufacturing unit workforce in the discipline of Reliability. The Reliability Engineer will interact with all functions in the unit and at all levels to ensure that Reliability of the assets is considered whenever decisions are made.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate and drive the Condition Monitoring Program, as it pertains to Predictive and Preventive Maintenance, Infrared Thermography, Tribology, Ultrasonic, Vibration Analysis, Motor Circuit Analysis, etc.
  • Providing technical expertise to execute cost effective preventive and predictive asset strategies to achieve best in class availability and reliability of the plant process equipment
  • Providing support for equipment related loss investigations to determine casual factors and provide technical recommendations and mitigation plans to prevent reoccurrence
  • Collaborating with operations, maintenance, engineering, procurement and other identified stakeholders to drive improved asset availability and support fit for purpose training on reliability work processes and practices
  • Support equipment related data capture for analysis and trending to establish equipment health, evaluation of risk, identifying bad actors and opportunities for improvement
  • Publishing Reliability Key Performance Indicators to measure and improve Reliability performance of the equipment assets and reliability related work processes
  • Assessing Equipment Criticalities and assist in developing Asset Strategies to achieve cost effective reliability, availability and performance of the plant equipment
  • Ensuring the facility's assets are operating reliably, efficiently, and compliant with all safety guidelines and government regulations
  • Assist in supporting Maintenance in the development of forward looking multi-year equipment replacement and overhaul plans
  • Identifying opportunities to use reliability best practices, technology, automation and Artificial Intelligence to promote cost effective asset care and performance
  • Supporting Maintenance in the review and rationalization and optimization of effective PM plans
  • Utilizes communication skills to establish partnerships across to the site to achieve plant performance goals
  • Develop and implement a reliability roadmap for the manufacturing unit. Establish Reliability Tactical Plan Plans to improve equipment availability and performance
  • Manage the hopper of reliability improvement activities in support of the master plan.
  • Act as the Reliability representative on all new equipment projects and equipment modifications to ensure that full life cycle costing, reliability and maintainability are considered as part of any designs
  • Develop and maintain plant specifications that are to be used in the design of new and modified assets.
  • Develop and refine of the preventive/predictive maintenance program in a systematic, professional manner coordinating all efforts with equipment custodians and maintenance management to ensure the program is properly approved and endorsed by the manufacturing unit
  • Interact with operators, tradespeople, planners, supervisors and engineers on a regular basis to ensure the effectiveness of the PM / PdM system.
  • Provide administration, control, and analysis of all data, records, and equipment histories to continually review and refine PM frequencies
  • Coordinate and provide training on techniques for selected maintenance personnel on the reliability topics:
  • Use statistical analysis techniques in the development of engineering solutions to repetitive equipment failures and other equipment problems; implementing ways of reducing the need for maintenance and ultimately eliminating the occurrence of failures. Repetitive failures are identified and the PM is refined by dynamic and relevant:
  • Analysis of equipment histories, maintenance cost reports, and failure report
  • Coordinate and/or perform Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for all significant failures in the manufacturing unit.
  • Develop and define the Key Performance Indicators for Reliability for the manufacturing unit

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or combination of post-secondary education and related experience preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in Reliability, Maintenance, Engineering, Aluminum industry preferred
  • Experience in developing and implementing improvement processes and projects
  • Knowledge of reliability centered maintenance principles and ability to facilitate investigations and develop mitigation plans to address findings
  • Experience with maintenance best practices such as Precision Maintenance techniques (e.g. dynamic balancing, equipment alignment, equipment repair standards, etc.)
  • Experience with predictive maintenance technologies (i.e. Vibration, Tribology, Thermography, Ultrasound, Motor Circuit Analysis)
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Statistical Process Control
  • Must have the ability to influence others at all levels of the organization.
  • Must possess strong administrative and communication skills.
  • Experience with proactive reliability tools and Root-Cause-Analysis methodology
  • Experience with MS Project
  • Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Experience troubleshooting equipment issues and analyzing production loss and reliability data
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
