Job Description

Serves as the relief operator for the Incinerator Operator, Assistant Incinerator Operator, and Assistant Mix Operator. Duties are performed in accordance with a detailed knowledge of the Standard Division Procedures, health/safety regulations, permit rules, and other company requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 Relief Incinerator Operator: serves the role of outside operator for the incinerator thermal unit (Kiln & SCC) and emission control systems (APC), including monitoring and controlling process equipment; troubleshooting, and repairs.
 Performs outside duties as needed for unit start-up, shutdown, and normal operation, of the following primary equipment and/or systems:
 -Kiln
 -Secondary Combustion Chamber (SCC)
 -Quench
 -Absorber and cooling tower loop
 -Ionized Wet Scrubber (IWS) & Wet Electro Static Precipitator (WESP)
 -Clarifier and filter press loops
 Performs duties to insure continued operation of Kiln and SCC systems, including
maintenance/troubleshooting of waste feed lines to Kiln and SCC, all ancillary equipment, feed ports, burners, combustion and atomizing air systems, etc..
 Implements corrective actions on waste feed systems and ancillary equipment
 Performs daily equipment and operational inspections to insure unit optimization.
 Serves as a primary operator over APC train and directs activities during startup, shutdown, and normal operation.
 Coordinates troubleshooting of thermal systems with the Lead Operator.
 Maintains slag inspection and removal of slag in the kiln, SCC, and quench.
 Operates filter press, samples filter cake, and performs all other related duties to maintain the operation of filter press.
 Maintains records, transfer log, SWGTT, and details of all shift occurrences in the filter press logbook.
 Maintains correct hourly dosage of chemical additives to APC Train, based upon process control testing.
 Oversees startup, shutdown, and normal operations of caustic and acid feed system to points of use, including unloading of product.
 Note: The Relief Operator cannot serve as relief for the Incinerator Operator.
 Serves as Emergency Response Team member certified to respond to Rescue, Hazmat, and medical emergencies within the level of training.
 Relief Assistant Incinerator Operator: performs duties as necessary to support the availability of bulk solids feed to the incinerator unit and management of residuals generated via the incineration and gas scrubbing processes. Stages and prepares KMIXs for unloading into the bulk feed system. Serves the role of outside operator for the ash/slag removal systems.
 Responsible for roll-off truck operation and roll-off box movement.
 Reviewing KMIX paperwork, locating boxes for KMIX, and prep for dumping.
 Confirm box information with Mix Operator and dump boxes in bulk.
 Place empty customer boxes in the customer's yard.
 Picking up loaded ash/slag and filter cake boxes. Ensure no waste is present on top of the box, weigh box, and place in truck staging.
 Place empty residual boxes in service, as requested by the operator.
 Assist with unit start-up and shutdown activities of residual collection systems (ash handling/deslagger)
 Maintains ash-handling and deslagger operations, including related systems.
 Performs cleanout of pan conveyor system
 Performs sampling of ash & slag.
 Performs operation of vacuum equipment (80 BBL, 130 BBL, guzzler, and vacuum box) including loading/unloading.
 Monitors and inspects vacuum equipment. Maintains vacuum box inventory.
 Digs out overweight packages (ash and slag) with a backhoe.
 Operates forklift, tanker truck, backhoe, and roll-off truck.
 Relief Assistant Mix Operator: coordinates and performs dumping of bulk and containerized material into the Bulk Solids Processing building. Stages and loads containers per the burn plan on the container feed system. Performs duties as necessary to support the availability of containers to the incinerator unit.
 Verifies all material being dumped in bulk solids pit on KMIXs and completes KMIX Verification Log.
 Adds absorbent to KMIXs as instructed.
 Completes Bulk Solids Verification Log.
 Stages containers on bulk solids ramp.
 Assists truck drivers in roll-off box dumping to bulk pit.
 Cleans and inspects all RCRA waste roll-off boxes.
 Responsible for the decontamination of boxes and equipment.
 Review burn plans to locate containers for staging to the container feed system. Ensure that all paperwork is filled out correctly. Confirm with a lead operator that the proper burn plan is being located.
 Transfer containers from the storage location to the staging area.
 Load containers on the conveyor system as needed by the burn plan.
STANDARD RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Must be able to perform RCRA area inspections
 Coordinate with the area operators to resolve any discrepancies found during the unit inspections (RCRA, H&S, Housekeeping) and ensures that they are all being remediated.
 Issues with Confined Space, Hot Work, and Line Breaking Permits.
 Performs lockout/tag-out procedures on designated equipment.
 Responds to all emergency conditions in the Incinerator area, and coordinate spill cleanup activities with help from the shift supervisor.
 Maintains safety and housekeeping standards in the assigned work area.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:
 High School Diploma and G.E.D. equivalent
 Minimum five years of process operations and six months of heavy equipment operations preferred
