Department Information

The H.H. Morris Human Performance Laboratories in the Department of Kinesiology in the School of Public Health on the Indiana University Bloomington campus is a multidisciplinary space with principal investigators who focus on issues related to human performance and health. Blair Johnson, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology and a principal investigator in the laboratory. His research is broadly focused on human integrative physiology with interests in reflex control of the circulation, ventilation, and metabolism. Currently, his research is aimed at investigating the physiology of water immersion and pathophysiology associated with head trauma.

Job Summary

  • Performs complex and intricate laboratory experiments while following research techniques and procedures.
  • Develops procedures and protocols in collaboration with leadership.
  • Prepares research reports or analyses for projects.
  • Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Provides guidance and support to junior-level staff in laboratory operations.
  • May develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for research projects and related work.
Other department responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of research projects and laboratory functions.
  • Responsible for screening and scheduling research participants, assisting in implementing and administering complex human subjects research protocols, data entry and analysis, purchasing and maintaining lab supplies and equipment, and helping with and maintaining IRB compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Will work closely with faculty, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Preferred
  • Master's degree in a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • Three years of related work experience.

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
