Proposes and undertakes a mentored, innovative project in line with the PIs research focus evaluating the long-term neurodevelopmental consequences of early brain injury. Current projects focus on investigating the visual behavioral and neuroplastic changes in youths who have visual perceptual dysfunctions as a result of neonatal white matter injury. The multimodal project includes structural, diffusion, relaxometry, and functional MRI, in addition to behavioral correlates.

The successful candidate will assist in fMRI study design, data acquisition, preprocessing, and analysis, as well as presenting the outcome(s) at scientific meetings and in peer-reviewed publications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops expertise in desired neuroimaging and developmental research areas. Develops proficiency with the research tools and equipment. Develops ability to work with more independence as the fellowship progresses.
  • Develops new ideas that promote the current research while bringing new expertise to the research program
  • Meet regularly with the mentor to review project progress and milestones
  • Prepare and publish a minimum of two manuscripts annually to peer-reviewed journals describing the project and results under the direction of the PI
  • Attend and present research findings at relevant meetings. Undertake relevant coursework if required by mentor.
  • Learns to identify, acknowledge, and correct limitations in one's own performance
  • As part of MEE training program, required to plan and deliver a seminar on the project
  • Assist in the scanning and behavioral testing of research participants
  • Assist in the preparation of IRB documents and take administrative (inventory, purchasing, etc. ) responsibilities in the lab when necessary
  • Under the direction of the PI, pursue and secure independent funding near the end of the fellowship


Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Doctoral degree required with 0-1 years of related work experience
  • Strong coding skills in python, MATLAB, bash, etc.
  • Advanced skills in the processing and analysis task-based fMRI and resting state MRI, particularly focusing on network-based approaches
  • Experience with diffusion MRI and/or relaxometry is advantageous, but not necessary
  • Experience working with clinical and/or pediatric populations is a plus, but not a requirement
  • Strong publication record in neuroimaging, with a preference for a focus on multimodal techniques in neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Good command of the oral and written English language
  • Strong organizational and data management skills
  • Prior experience reviewing, analyzing, and summarizing scientific literature
  • Excellent attention to detail and interpersonal, organizational, writing, and project management skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Lab setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possible lifting of 10 to 20 lbs., depending on nature of chosen project(s).
