Job Title:Research Technician 2Department:FAES | Animal Sciences

Seeking a motivated organized individual to serve as research support staff to investigate the neuronal circuits that regulate feeding behaviors using genetically engineered mice and the pathogenesis for wooden breast syndrome in chickens.The laboratory employs a comprehensive array of techniques, including molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, bioinformatics, and behavioral analysis, to investigate how the brain coordinates food intake and energy homeostasis, as well as the molecular mechanisms underlying muscle myopathy disease in chickens. The candidate will be expected to carry out technical, administrative, and general laboratory functions.

Additional Information:

This includes coordinating the maintenance, breeding, and genotyping of transgenic mouse colonies (30%). The candidate will also be expected to perform routine molecular biology techniques such as RNA isolation, protein isolation, RT-PCR, western blots, cell culture, tissue section, immunohistology, and animal phenotype assessment (30%). Additional tasks involve ordering and maintaining lab supplies, materials, and equipment and maintaining a clean, safe, and functional laboratory in compliance with all EHS regulations (20% of the workload). The candidate will also be responsible for entering data into computers using Excel or other database formats, assisting the PI in preparing reports, abstracts, and publications of data, and may involve training and supervising undergraduate work-study students (20% of their role).

Qualifications: Qualifications for this position include a high school diploma or GED. A bachelor's degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, neuroscience, animal science, or a related field is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and curious, possessing strong organizational and communication skills. They should also be open to learning new techniques, especially in areas such as behavioral analysis, metabolic evaluation of mice, and cell culture. Familiarity with common computer software, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is beneficial. The candidate should demonstrate both the ability and eagerness to learn new methodologies.
