Job Description

The Scientist will design, manage, perform and report detailed Glycoproteins and Complex Carbohydrates Characterization studies utilizing methods including LC-MS, Anion Exchange/HILIC/Reverse Phase chromatography, and MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry in a leading global CRO.

  • Design, manage, perform and report analyses related to glycoproteins, N- and O-glycans, complex carbohydrates, glycosaminoglycans, and/or their respective derivatives using the appropriate instrumentation in place. This would include but not be restricted to LC-MS/MS, MALDI-TOF MS/MS, HPAEC-PAD, HILIC-FLD(-MS), etc.
  • Ensure turnaround times are met, work is performed safely and to the specified quality standards under the supervision of Scientists and/or the Team Leaders
  • Design and perform detailed and complex sample preparation procedures (e.g., digestions, purifications, buffer exchanges, etc.) while following SOPs and established test Protocols
  • Maintain Carbohydrate-related instrumentation such as LC-MS/MS, MALDI-TOF MS/MS, HPAEC-PAD, HILIC-FLD(-MS), and other instrumentation in the Biophysical, Biologics, or Physico-Chemical Teams as instructed (electrophoresis, UV-Vis, fluorimeter, etc.)
  • Perform required sample preparation, analyze samples, and interpret data.
  • Support Client Services with Technical/Scientific input with regards to Complex Carbohydrates and Glycoprotein analyses, as needed
  • Support for the provision of the service-e.g. equipment maintenance, record keeping, housekeeping, etc.-in order to maintain all equipment in full working order and keep all records up to date
  • At all times, adopt a safe behavior by exercising due regard for the health and safety of yourself, colleagues, and clients in line with the Company's policies and procedures
  • Perform the above duties in compliance with GMP regulations


Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Biochemistry, Analytical Sciences, Mass Spectrometry
  • 5+ years of experience in complex glycan/carbohydrate analyses in an industrial environment
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) required.
  • Hands-on application of one or more of the techniques listed above and understanding of their use in the characterization of glycoproteins/complex carbohydrates are required
  • Strong understanding of protein/large molecule/complex carbohydrate analytical sciences
Preferred
  • Doctorate degree in Glycomics, Glycoproteomics, Analytical Glycobiology
  • 2+ years of experience in industry
