The Role in Brief:

Senior Account Manager, Advancement Marketing Services

The Senior Account Manager (Sr. AM) works in partnership with clients and with internal teams to shape client direct marketing strategies for fundraising initiatives, and partners with the Senior Strategic Leader (Sr. SL) as the decision maker for the project team for a particular client. The Sr. AM has the primary responsibility for leading client relationships in collaboration with the Sr. SL, given a client's goals, resources and timeline. As the central client contact, the role builds, stewards and accelerates both our client's partnership with EAB and their ability to exceed their fundraising goals. Advancement Marketing Services is a fast-growing area of EAB and the Sr. AM role as the central client contact is critical to sustaining and evolving that success. As part of an entrepreneurial business, the Sr. AM will have the opportunity to contribute to business-wide and client-specific strategy.

This position is located in Richmond, Virginia.



Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop an understanding of client goals and keep abreast of changes in the client's situation. Communicate these goals and changes consistently to the project team. Partner with the SL in leading the team that translates institutional goals and brand identity into achievable direct response programs, working within EAB's array of services.
  • Lead and/or support testing and refinement of critical strategic and creative elements within the client's program(s).
  • Proactively work with the leadership team to define appropriate, cost-effective cross-sell and up-sell targets within client book. With the SL's support, lead clients to understanding of cross-sell & up-sell options and actively champion those likely to improve the client situation.

  • Develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of higher education fundraising strategies, segmentation, copy approaches etc.

  • Develop a thorough understanding of how data is leveraged to create highly personalized direct marketing campaigns to drive more engagement and desire to support the institution.

  • Communicate with internal project teams the client value of our programs and foster seamless execution.

  • Identify areas of opportunity to deepen client relationships.

  • Collaborate with internal departments to seek new information and help define new solutions that will improve client success.

  • Seek opportunities for cross-disciplinary learning relative to client success.

  • Lead discussions and develop innovative plans to overcome obstacles for project teams and clients. Work collaboratively with the SL to identify and share new solutions that lead clients to positive outcomes.

  • Partner with the SL in leading meetings and conference calls with clients and project teams and involve project teams in client meetings as appropriate.

  • Initiate project start-up and problem-solving meetings to ensure team understanding and enthusiasm to successfully execute client programs.

  • With the guidance of the SL, oversee strategic direction on creative content. In partnership with client-facing team, review all creative materials from both a direct response and client-appropriate standpoint.

  • With the guidance of the SL, conduct annual project reporting and planning for clients, develop proposals and written presentations for clients, and participate in client presentation of the deliverables.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years' experience managing client relationships or fundraising as a primary responsibility; direct response marketing, higher education and account management experience, strongly preferred

  • Experience leading teams and mentoring staff

  • Proven customer service and communication skills

  • Ability to listen, understand concerns, overcome resistances and follow through on resolutions

  • Ability to stay organized and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with accelerating priorities

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Ideal Qualifications:
  • 5+ years' experience in direct response marketing, higher education and account management experience, strongly preferred
  • Strategic thinking ability

  • Leadership and people management skills
