Day Shift; 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Non-Exempt;

Position Summary:

Under general direction, provides experienced leadership for a group of credentialing coordinators by overseeing assignments; reassigning/delegating work as necessary to ensure timely completion of assignments per schedules and departmental criteria. Trains new coordinators; helps to train other office staff as needed. Participates in planning, policy and procedures development, quality initiatives and ongoing leadership activities with director and manager. Ensures the credentialing process complies with organizational as well as accrediting agency, Federal and State regulatory standards. Responsible for auditing and compliance of all assigned department credentialing files which includes management of credentialing information, coordination of correspondence and interaction with the practitioners, department liaison and department chiefs, and external organizations.

Education:

A minimum of a High school diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.

Work Experience:

Minimum five years in hospital-based credentialing and medical staff services or in progressively more responsible position in complex business/administrative office settings, which must include working with faculty or other professional groups. At least one year of experience should be in a Credentials & Compliance Coordinator role.

Licensure/Certification:

CPMSM, CPCS, or CPHQ preferred.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of medical staff services principles, methods and procedures, and office management.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of a) credentialing policies and procedures; b) training program requirements as established by the Hospital and School of Medicine; and c) accreditation and regulatory requirements relating to the medical staff, with a focus on credentialing.
  • Understanding of the Hospital's credentialing policies and procedures as they relate to professional liability coverage.

  • Organizational skills required to handle voluminous paper flow and to prioritize tasks in order to meet cyclical deadlines.

  • Ability to manage demanding workload; self-motivated; able to carry out responsibilities with minimum supervision.

  • Analytical skills necessary to determine whether correct and complete information was provided on applications.

  • Pays meticulous attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze problems and offer solutions; able to anticipate problems and act proactively to resolve or minimize them.

  • Interacts with diverse groups of people within the Health System and with outside agencies.

  • Possesses ability to manage specialized database, including production of reports covering the area of responsibility.

  • Understands the perspectives of both credentialing professionals and leadership; shares perspectives with team members and leadership.

  • Adheres to professional confidentiality standards in accordance with legal, ethical, and departmental policies. Handles sensitive and confidential situations/information, with a high degree of tact and diplomacy.

  • Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills are necessary to interact with providers and both external and internal customers.

  • Possesses excellent command of English; verbal, written (to include grammar and spelling), and reading comprehension.
