What you'll be doing:

The Senior Director of Insights builds competitive advantage for Beauty business unit by delivering market segment analysis, industry insights, category trend information, and fact-based customer and consumer understanding coupled with performance data and proof points to fuel a growth agenda.

Responsible for defining, leading, and managing industry and market segment research, customer & consumer insights, and category and competitive monitoring and analysis to facilitate strategic and tactical decision-making in the Beauty business unit. Additionally, create and implement well-designed studies and practices to support a deeper understanding of buying behaviors and product use.

This leader is a key member of the Marketing team who anticipates the needs of the division and influences the thinking of the business units with rich views into the consumer, their problem, desires, unmet needs and unrecognized needs, trends influencing the beauty category, customer business, and the overall competitive landscape.

You will work closely with leadership, sales, product, and marketing team members and other cross-functional teams to identify data and analytics needs to support business development efforts.


  • Partner with cross-functional partners in the Marketing, Sales, and Product to identify insights and optimize an integrated business plan that enables the brand to claim and maintain an ownable position in the marketplace

  • Utilize market data, consumer research, and insights, and competitive intelligence to find opportunities and needs in the market to support the expansion, customization, and optimization of existing products, the introduction of new products, and consumer segmentation initiatives.

  • Deep understanding of key brand health measures, as well as a keen understanding of a constantly evolving competitive, technological, retail, and customer environment.

  • Drive comprehensive category analysis to identify gaps and growth opportunities in Haircare, Styling tools categories.

  • Build and maintain a true understanding of market trends and omnichannel category insights by using Category Development toolkits such as Nielsen, NPD, Profitero, Spectra, Kantar, Mintel, Euromonitor and bespoke research.

  • Use eCommerce tools/dashboards to provide omnichannel commercial insights to the retailer and cross-functional teams.

  • Communicate, influence, and drive the category insights within the multi-functional team, including standard methodologies online and offline.

  • Collaborate with Sales and cross-functional leaders to provide shopper insights for internal management meetings and/or brand marketing initiatives.

  • Lead and manage the full scope of research projects with limited oversight

  • Understand business issues and questions to address to support development of a comprehensive research brief

  • Determine and recommend research methodology to address business questions. Conduct research, primary and secondary, to provide impactful insights in a timely manner.

  • Identify the best vendor through the appropriate RFP process. Manage vendors from research design (incl sample, questionnaire, discussion guide), fieldwork, analysis, reporting, and presentation delivery, ensuring data accuracy.

  • Analyze and interpret data in Excel. Create insightful PowerPoint charts and slides. Deliver learning, in a story-like presentation that addresses all research objectives and includes measurable recommendations to key partners.

  • Develop, mentor, and hire as needed a team of highly motivated business insights and trend professionals.


Skills needed to be successful in this role:

  • Strong quantitative skills developed and demonstrated through part hands-on project experience.

  • Analytical and critical thinking attitude with an eye towards opportunity assessments and action planning

  • Experience identifying and managing external partners

  • Function autonomously, be self-directed and self-motivated, dynamic, and confident

  • Identifies key business trends and issues with a consultative application of analytical insights and return on investment

  • Consistent track record of success in a fast-paced growth environment by possessing the experience and knowledge to adapt and apply to move the business forward.

  • Demonstrates resourcefulness.

  • Strong written, verbal, and technical communication skills with thorough attention to detail. Excellent presentation skills to craft a strategic data narrative, time, and project management skills.

  • Impact and influence at multiple levels and across the company

  • Ability to balance short- and long-term goals to drive the team's mission forward while balancing daily needs for clients.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.

  • 10+ years of experience in roles of dynamic responsibility with market research. Preferably in consumer products

  • 5+ years of work experience as a director or above

  • Experience in leading & evolving strategic insights & analytics teams; beauty, retail and/or Amazon, SME, a plus

  • Expertise in developing and programming primary research questionnaires that deliver objectively breakthrough insights.

  • Rich experience using overnight online research tools such as SurveyMonkey and FocusVision decipher

  • Advanced experience with industry-leading statistical and reporting tools and applications as well as experience with and knowledge of insights, analytics, and data platforms like NPD, Nielsen, Profitero, or similar

  • Deep knowledge of qualitative and quantitative analysis and ability to provide intuitive plain language understanding to executives

  • Solid understanding of customer journey in mass and prestige retail environment and eCommerce.

  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
