We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior HVAC/Plumbing Mechanical Engineer in one of our California offices. This is a unique opportunity for a senior level individual to participate join a large, well-established organization with a culture that promotes teamwork, integrity, and respect. You will work closely with our highly skilled multi-disciplinary teams throughout the organization and our clients to efficiently deliver projects and provide high value consultancy services.

Working with our Engineering Design Organization, this position offers a unique opportunity to work on diverse projects, collaborate with talented professionals, and make a significant impact within our organization and the communities we serve. Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Technical Guidance and Project Oversight: Providing expertise and guidance on various engineering projects, with a focus on heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, building plumbing systems, process piping systems, energy management systems (EMS), central plants, and more.
  • Design Delivery: Overseeing and leading the production of complex engineering designs, drawings, details, and specifications.
  • Project Scope and Schedule Management: Assisting project managers in developing and managing project scopes, schedules, budgets, and quality plans. Your expertise will contribute to effective project planning and execution.
  • Leadership: Leading and supporting cohesive project teams, including subconsultants, to achieve project objectives, promoting collaboration, and creating a positive work environment.
  • Coaching and Mentoring: Playing a crucial role in coaching and mentoring junior staff, helping them develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Community and Professional Engagement: Actively engaging in community and professional organizations, representing our company and staying up-to-date with industry trends.
  • Client Relationship Management: Actively participating in client relationship management, attending client meetings as needed.
  • Business Development: Supporting Senior Project Managers with business development on behalf of GHD, position for new work and secure projects.
The ideal candidate would have the following skills:
  • Experience in heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, building plumbing systems, process piping systems, energy management systems (EMS), and central plants.
  • Experience working in multi-discipline teams - e.g. Architects, Civil, Structural, Electrical, and Fire Protection engineers.
  • Experience supporting all stages of the project life-cycle, including preparing project scope and fee proposals, writing feasibility studies, preparing basis of design reports, consulting, developing detailed design drawings and specifications, developing budgetary construction cost estimates, and providing construction support.
  • Strong foundation and proficiency across multiple software design platforms, including familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and EnergyPro.
  • Experience and familiarity with California Codes.
  • Experience with the LEED building certification system is desired.
  • Ability to support and grow relationships/business within GHD's US West Region.
  • Ability to support project/client proposals and participate in interviews as needed.
  • Capability to provide mentorship to staff within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment and knowledge with staff and peers.
  • Proven professional judgement, including identifying, assessing, evaluating and solving problems.
  • Excellence at all stages of the project life-cycle, from preparing bids to feasibility studies, consenting, detailed design and data analysis, and stakeholder management
  • Robust written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to concisely convey complex issues.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • California Mechanical Engineering (ME) license required, or ability to obtain within 6 months. Other state engineering registrations may be considered.
  • 10+ years in consulting mechanical engineering experience in commercial, educational, City, State and Federal facilities.

Salary Range: $130,00 - $195,000
